Has anyone used the Pioneer DVR 108 to backup games? I'm just curious because I'm about to pick one up today.

I bought the 107 and flashed the firmware to burn 4x discs at 8x. works flawlessly for 2 months now. Not a single coaster. I must add that I only use good quality media(Verbatim datalife). So save yourself some cash and get the 107 instead of the 108.

At this point, I have to agree, that the 107 is the better buy. The 108 will be a solid burner but there seems to be a few bugs in the firmware ATM so I would wait a month or so until they get things sorted out. IMHO it is never a good idea to buy a Burner right after it is released. Give it a month or two so you have some options if you should run into trouble (and the price will be just a little bit cheaper).

The price wasn't that bad. I got it for $160.00 AUD. And I got the latest firmware (V1.10). But I haven't tried it out yet.

I have this drive and it works great with RITEKG05 media, they are only 8x so you cant burn @ 16x Supposedly 16x media will be coming out in Sept.

The one +DL disc that came with my drive burned and works flawlessy in my Halo xbox with Philps drive

I got this drive for about $100.00 from Rima
works just as good as my 107, so if your into having the latest technology and want a DL burner, why not go with who created DVD in the first place?

That makes sense. Pioneer and Ritek were pretty much made for eachother. No other burner and media are as good of a match. wink.gif *EDIT* BTW you should be able to burn 8x media at 16x before too long. It usually doesn't take long for that kind of a firmware upgrade to come out for the Pioneer. wink.gif

ok after resetting my dvddecrypter from 8x to max, I realized that it said 2x,4x,6x,8x,12x,16x as supported recording speeds....

I never mess with what works so it really never bothered me, but low and behold I just burnt a data disc @ 16X using Memorex 8x rated discs

after perusing over rpc1.org it seems that Pioneer actually supports this out of the box! silly me! wink.gif

Also I saw somewhere that NiL and Gradius say that it may be possible for 4x@16x firmware! wink.gif wink.gif

All I can say is if its RiTEKG05, its the best media avail hands down
