Xbox Cpu Upgrade To Tualatin Celeron 1.4ghz 256k, Tualatin Celeron 1.4GHz 256K CPU Options

Would it be possible to upgrade the xbox CPU to an Tualatin Celeron 1.4GHz 256K without the FriendTech socket adapter? Would it be possible to manipulate the socket adapter if required? Last time I checked the Xbox's CPU had a socket type of Socket-370, which is the same as the Tualatin Celeron 1.4GHz 256K I have. I also have a fully working v1.0 xbox console softmodded ready to be used for hardware modifying.

The xbox cpu is not socketed. It's soldered on in a BGA(ball grid array). Yes the socket type is 370 but it's BGA-370 not PGA-370(pin grid array) like the cpu you mention. The adpter is simply a PGA-370 socket which solders onto the xbox's BGA, it also adds a little bit of hardware which is not found on PGA cpu chips.

If I understand him correctly, Trusty had discontinued the 1.4 xbox upgrade because he could no longer get the adapter required to allow the xbox to take a socket 370 Tualatin. Therefore, you may have trouble finding said adapter, and to build one, would be next to impossible, unless you're trusty himself.

However, the PL-Neo/T™ can NOT upgrade the PPGA Celeron™ CPU, due to its lack of the AGTL circuitry
support. The core voltage been fixed at 1.55V for the FC-PGA2 (Tualatin) Celeron™ and Pentium-III CPUs.

Nope. Won't work.
The stock CPU on an xbox is in fact NOT a BGA'd 370. It is a BGA'd variation of a socket 478 CPU. So you would need a BGA 478 (m?) to PGA 370 adapter.

your looking for a friendtech adapter. (good luck)

but i have seen some which go like this..
One part converts the BGA of the board to a pga.
and then Theres an adapter for the cpu.. to take it to a diferent pga type. and these come in 2 diferent variations
Theres ones that have the chip solderd directly to the PGA converter.. "looks like a nightmare job to me personaly"
and then theres the PGA converters with a socket in place for the chip...

The only one i have ever seen personaly is the ones with a chip solderd directly to the adapter.

however i believe these are infact also truysty releases so you should really be trying to find trusty..

Trusty does not make the adapters he uses. The proprietary part of his work (the secretive part that makes it impossible for us to do it ourselves), is the modification done to the Xbox board UNDERNEATH the adapter before it is soldered on.

The exact adapter required (for the 1.4ghz ) is also unknown (I only have theories), and of course, the equipment required for the job is also something most people don't have access to. You need an infrared thermometer, an x-ray machine (required only for the 1ghz upgrade), and hot air rework equipment.

As far as the 1.4ghz upgrade, I believe he has ceased offering this. I'm not sure if he is still offering his 1ghz upgrade service or not. Most people just PM him with inquiries. If he hasn't answered the PM after some time, I would say he no longer does them.
