Hi, I was looking to see if anyone has any tutorials on how to use an old-school nes/snes controller on an x-box. I have done alot of searching around, and haven't found anything saying it was definitely possible. I found in my searches that you can buy nes controllers that have usb connections @ http://www.sealiecomputing.com/retrozone/retropad.html and I also saw a couple of places that you can add USB ports to the xbox controllers etc. but I was unclear if these controllers would work for emulators or if they would be useless since the drivers would not be installed? If anyone can help point me in the right direction on where to buy controllers, converters, or how to make my own that would be great!
Thanks guys! biggrin.gif

why the fungi would you want to do that

not unless....

the snes controller is exactly the same as the xbox, the setup is so similar that you wouldn't need to do this, and plus you can't do things like fast forward or go into the menu with just a standard controller
save the money go buy yourself a cookie or something

I disagree that it's useless. It brings back the fun retro feelings.

I know amiga controllers can be used, so I'm sure SNES ones could be too, it's just a matter of tracing the wires to find out which combination of wires causes a button press to be recognized. It would take a lot of work I suspect but it could be done. Kudos to anyone who does and good luck.

I may have to go for the save the money and buy a cookie idea, but will that theory still work if I substitute a beer for the cookie? I basically wanted to do it for the old retro feel. I was playing snes with one of my friends, and was wooping on them, and they were using the excuse that it's the controller that was screwing them up. So I thought it would be cool if I could make a couple of retro controllers for each of the emulators that I frequent to get that old school feel to it. I did find one link that described the ins and outs of the nes controller for making a nes PC, but that again was hardwiring the nes to the parralell port and then using drivers to get it to recognize it. And that also dealt with wiring a battery into it for power, but I was thinking with the USB controller that I found that problem would be taken care of.

I guess My real question is this: I know that xbox controller ports are basically just USB ports, but how plug and play compatible are they?? If you plug in a keyboard, can you play halo using it or is it not really that simple??
