Hi there,

I was going to dump the my cousin's fat lite-on 16d2s using my home-made probe.
Which is simply a wire connected to the mpx01 pad and a switch on the 3.3v line.

But I accidentally ripped off the pad because the wire became stuck between my chair and the desk..
So I scraped everything with my fiberglass penn but couldnt find anything under the pad.
Instead I connected the wire to the resistor that connects to the pad.

However the drives suddenly doesn't respond anymore.
It won't even eject or close and my console gives me E64.

And I haven't done any probing yet.

So does the mpx01 pad connects to some other spot on the board to make it work?
I'm pretty sure I didn't damage anything else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Why would you connect it in the first place? You just need to touch it to it after cutting the 3.3v. Could be causing your issue.

Because I find it easier to touch the other end of the MPX01 spot to the case of my console.
I always do it like that.
Turn the console on, disconnect 3.3v, press the MPX01 wire onto the case, connect 3.3v, done.

It was a stupid accident I guess.

I looked everywhere on the net but couldn't find out where the MPX01 connects to, also there is nothing under the pad.
That makes me think the MPX01 is just a dead-end.
Like CHIP-leg -> resistor -> MPX01 -> nothing..
If so, then it's strange that my drive suddenly died, because I haven't done any key extracting yet.
It doesn't eject and my console gives me E64.

I'm already at kernel 16xxx so my fw was already updated to 0251.

Could you try soldering to the pad and trying to restore the connection?

Thanks for the replies smile.gif

@Cloudboy
Unfortunately the solder won't stick to the pad since there's no metal connection underneath it.
That's why I was hoping someone could measure an alternate spot, so I can restore it by soldering a wire to the resistor and connect the other end of the wire to it.
If there is no such thing, meaning that MPX01 is a dead-end (chip-leg -> resisitor -> MPX01 -> nothing), then I'm out of luck. I guess the board is dead then.

@iateshaggy
My solder skills are pretty good, but not good enough to replace a chip.
So in case I can do nothing to repair the MPX01 trace, then I'll try to find someone who can place the chip onto another board for me.

Thanks again smile.gif

dude a PMT probe is pennies to buy, and you can make one with a pushpin and a length of wire!!

i made mine fom an old CK3 probe works a treat!!

soldering a wire to the MPS01 point is madness and asking for trouble!!

only way to fix this is to lift the chip. whereabouts are you i know a few guys with the skills to do this.

Thx Gazc0igne
However I still don't fully understand why I have to lift the chip.
The connection is like this right?
Chip-leg -> trace -> resistor -> trace -> MPX01 pad (end?)
Only the pad has gone into smoke, but even the trace coming from the resistor is still good.
As you can see in the picture I soldered directly onto the resistor and I can measure it.

So if only the pad is gone, what causes the board to malfunction (no identify/eject etc) ?
There are no other traces going to the pad and I couldnt find anything beneath it either.

(offtopic)
Any idea when xboxhacker.net will be up again?

So anyways I wasn't able to repair this and the console is still collecting dust.
Do the fat lite-on drives require a full set of drive/pcb/laser-serial and inquiry just like the slim drives in order to pass the fcrt-checks?
The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to glitch it to get the dvd-key so I can flash it into a new drive pcb.
