Enable DiVX/XViD Playback
December 31, 2009 at 11:59 am (Software Intallation) (mod, mods, modding, hack, hacks, hacking, xbox, 360, microsoft, JTAG)

Updated 17/01/2010

To enable the playback of video files, you need to install the Optional Media Update. (Freely available from Microsoft)

Download Optional Media Update (Also includes iPod update)

Download Yaris-Swap http://www.hb-released.com/download/xbox36...k/YarisSwap.rar

Copy FFFE07DF from the .zip file to a USB stick

Run Yaris-Swap > Go To Folder > navigate to this folder on the USB stick

usb:\Content\0000000000000000\FFFE07DF\00000002\
Click open > Click Hex mod – Yaris Swap

Now put the USB stick in your 360 and using XeXLoader, copy the FFFE07DF folder from your USB stick to

hdd:\Content\0000000000000000\
All “supported” codecs will now be playable on your 360 and also some basic iPod support.

You can download some trailers HERE to check it’s working

If you receive error code 80-C00DF242 when you try to play an divx/xvid .avi file that means it contains audio or video with an unsupported codec.

Download GSpot to examine the file and find out what codecs it is using.
http://free-codecs.com/GSpot_download.htm

Supported Video Codecs:

- DivX 5.0.5 (DX50)
- MPEG-1
- WMV3 (HD)
- XviD 1.0.0
- XviD 1.0.2
- XviD 1.0.3
- XviD 1.1.0 Beta 1

Guide copied from DARKFiB3R's blog at http://stainedfuture.wordpress.com/tag/hacking/ which will be quite useful to a lot of people, lots of interesting topics to read about on his site and many thanks to him for sharing

perhaps the divx/xvid FAQ http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=637843 should be updated to share this useful info, I know i found it informative and useful. How about u?

So without using Yaris Swap on the file, what are the differences in compatable codecs between the modified and unmodified "optional media update"? Is it jsut the DivX/xvid?

on the main dash, divx and xvid's show up and play 100% in the video tab, mkv's will only show up and play through windows media centre, havnt stuck an mkv on an external usb drive/thumbstick and tried to load one through windows media but they stream perfectly through Lan.

I don't see anything in this post that isn't already included in the FAQ.

And I have removed your links to copy-written files. Link to an MS server or don't link at all to MS files.
