Ok, now im not sure how noob of a question this is because i am new to soft modding, i normally use my xbox with a mod chip but i wanted to give soft modding a try, so i used the hot swap method, All went well, until i tried to turn on my xbox and it froze up on the M$ dash board loading screen, is there something i need to do after that or did i mess anything up? Help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

well i used the hotswap method provided in a tutorial on maxconsole. It took me a few tries to get it right but i used xboxhdm v1.9. At the end of the auto installer it says "All Done" according to the tut i used it said i should wait 5 seconds then turn off my xbox and pc. So thats what i did, and after i reconnected my Ide Cable to my xbox. I turned my Xbox on and it freezes up at the screen with the green "X" right before the original M$ dashboard is loaded. I have a few assumptions as to what might be the problem, my main assumption is that mayb my hdd was left unlocked, and i do not have the EEprom numer. So mayb my Eeprom was delted also which would be extremely bad. Now im not sure if that problem is minor or big but i was thinking i could run Xboxhdm again and just reformat my drive again. If you have any other ideas that would be appreciated

Are retail Xbox games booting? If so, your hard drive would be unlocked during gameplay and you could hotswap back in to fix it. What is the error code in the top left corner?

You where supposed to plug the ide back into the xbox hd before you shut it off..I think the hd mite be unlocked and thats why it wont boot but im not to sure about that.Because you would get a error 5-6..But you could try xboxhdm to see if its unlocked..When you used xboxhdm did you just rebuild C or did you do the whole drive..If you had eeprom backup it would be in the E: drive..But if you rebuilt the whole drive and dont have eeprom...Your gonna need a modchip..And your xboxs eeprom is on the mother board so it couldnt have been deleted..the backup could have been tho..Also if you got a version 1.0-1.5 xbox you could flash tsop..Check out the tsop forum for info..

Edit:Also check that the connections are good and tight..

Edit: ok your hd is probably locked in the faqs it says it automaticly locks..So must be some thing else like a bad connection..but like i said above 1 sure way to know if its locked is to load up xboxhdm with the hd hooked up and see if xboxhdm can access it.

When you turned off the PC did it say "All Done!" twice and did you use the poweroff command where you would originally type in"xboxhd"?

some auto installers are xbox version specific.
what xbox version do you have?

don't worry about your HD not being locked, it will automatically lock either on power off, or power on (can't remember which one). you will also get an error code (6, i think) if it is not locked.

using xboxhdm 1.9
boot into option 1 or 2,

type xbrowser at the prompt.
then report back here with the contents of your xbox HD.
you may not have the correct files in your c: and/or e: drive.

as a precautionary measure, i never rebuild from scratch.
the first thing you should do once you get access to the HD is make a folder on the HD and copy EVERYTHING on it to this backup folder.

if you do not have a dashboard on your xbox HD, you may have bigger problems.

it looks like the autoinstaller took a sht on you. maybe you burned the disc at a high speed and got a bad file or two? maybe you got a bad download? who knows, but if you ask me this is what sounds like happened.
the worst part is you didn't find out until you woke up the next day rolling around in it.

what i'm saying is it seems that it fcked up without telling you.

personally i don't use shadow c, mostly because it makes diagnosing the problem much more difficult for me!
there doesn't seem to be a lot of benefit to it.

the best way to do the softmod in a version 1.0 (my opinion) is to use a bios loader. i did this in my last version 1.0 just by swapping the files in xbrowser.

poke around in the folders and see if the autoinstaller made a backup of the M$ files.
if it did you can run a patcher once you return them to the right place (easiest way).

if not, i can tell you what to do through e-mail.

Two comments/questions, and don't take this as a flame....

1. Why don't you use your modchip and slayers to fix the drive?
2. Why in the first place did you play with hotswapping when you have a modchip? It would have been easier and safer to copy the files over in modchip mode and then switch off the chip and reboot.
