I'm trying to install the XDK dash on a softmodded xbox. I already have pbl loading a debug bios but I can't get the XDK dashboard to install. Whenever I get ftp access to the real C (after launching Krayzie Extras>>Launch Extras), I can't send over any of the XDK files. I always get a failed transfer and 0KB files are sent.

What do I need to do to send the XDK files to the real C?

Hi,

you will need to make some room available on your xbox c partition. The ndure creates a shadowc folder on the c partition and fills that one with the shadowc.img file (which is your shadowc). It also places a couple of filler files. fill1.img and fill2.img I think. The only purpose of this files is to fill up your c partition. When the c partition is full, no game can try to update your dashboard, as there simply is no room for it.

So, you can safely delete one or both filler files. If you still run out of free space, you will need to relocate the shadowc.img file. The nkpatcher points to the lcation of that file, so you will need to fix that one if you reenable the shadowc.

Maybe you could make the shadowc.img smaller and leave it on it's location. I haven't figured out yet how you can create such a file. This might be a interesting question for this forum.

regards.

Thanks for the tips. btw, if that doesn't work, could I just disable the shadowc...I found this post:

Sounds like you are using Ndure-3.0 by Kingroach. The dash path should be e:\dash\default.xbe ..that will fix you're error 21.

The c: you see (haha) is the shadowc . .there is a bug in the installer (fixed in next version) that makes the shadowc.img read only sometimes, this is the casue of not being able to write to c: . To fix this put a file (any file) and rename it "shadowC_off.bin" in the root of e: (probably case-sensitive). Reboot and you will have access to the real c: (CAREFULL)..ftp in and copy c:\shadowc\shadowc.img to your pc, then change the attributes so it's not read only or replace it with the one in from the package.. delete the c:\shadowc\shadowc.img on your xbox and replace with the one you just fixed on your PC. Delete or rename "shadowC_off.bin" on e: and reboot, your real c: wil be hidden again and the shadowc should work fine now .

you can make it smaller (200MB min) just use the shadowC_off.bin or NDTS and delete the shadowc.img
then FTP any file the size you want and name it shadowc.img, remove the bin file and/or reboot
the C partion will have 0 bytes (invalid FAT), all you have to do is Format and copy the MS dash files to it (178MB)

Hi,

with the shadowc enabled, you can go to your dash and format your c partition. It will not format your real drive, but it will alter your shadowc.img file so that it becomes a valid C.

when that is done, you can copy the M$dash files to that shadowc so that it looks again like a real c partition that has not been modded. The files need to be there if you select the Microsoft dashboard option of your softmod dashboard (Unleashx nowadays). You need 178Mb free space to ftp the M$dash files over.

You can also ftp the contents of your current shadowc to your pc. If you change the shadowc size, you need to be sure you have enough free space on it to ftp them back.

This has nothing to do with your debug dash files. You need to copy those to your real C partition, as the debug bios is not aware of your shadowc.

regards.
