Hi,

I'm going to softmod my xbox using UXE, but I had a few questions.
I spend the last days reading forums on xbox-scene about softmodding, and this is with what I ended:

I have a MechAssault save on a Memcard and the UXE-Complete V0.2 Package.
When I got FTP access to my xbox via a MechAssault savegamehack I make a backup of my eeprom, bios C & E Drive.
Then I delete everthing on my C: drive and copy the UXE complete C:\ replace in it my C should look like this.

+C:\
+
+--[fonts]
+------|- bert-generic.xtf
+------|- ernie.xtf
+------|-[nk]
+----------|-devz3ro
+----------|-nkpatcher.xbe
+----------|-[apps]
+----------------|- [detacher]
+-----------------------|-default.xbe
+----------------|- [isoripper]
+-----------------------|-backup.cfg
+-----------------------|-default.xbe
+----------------|- [shadowcmaker]
+-----------------------|-default.xbe
+----------|-[dashboard]
+----------------|-default.xbe
+----------------|-evox.ini
+----------------|-[skin]
+---------------------|-Skin stuff etc.
+--xboxdash.xbe

And then my xbox is ready?
I don t get it there it is so little files and the old files are still needed, aren t they?

And isnt there something that need to be placed on e:\?? like a bios?
And do I got all files neccecary? Ive got : UXE-Complete V0.2 and The savegamehack.

btw my xbox is V1.6 kernel 5838

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Firstly I would like to advice you to get the update version of the UXE complete package (uxe-complete-v0.2.1.bz2)

It contains a fix for a little config error made in the previous version.

That being said, unpack the complete package, click on the readme.rtf and follow the instructions.

I softmodded a xbox last week with this package and all I did was emptying the C drive and throwing the files from the package onto the C drive.

That's about it smile.gif

Easy huh

Ok,

Ive downloaded the update and installed the 71 fonts and the nk patch so tomorrow(I dont have time now rolleyes.gif )I erease my C and put everything in the folder Uxe C Replace in my C. If everything goes o.k. Evox should boot and I can play bacup games and place things like XBMC on E, right???
If things dont go right I can just place the bacup back or install the 61 fonts.

exactly! it's so easy it makes you wonder why there are so many questions from people who have broken their xboxes....but fyi, it's the people that don't do their homework that end up with problems, you seem to be doing fine.

with your new xbox, the 71 fonts should work just fine

I have a question regarding the running of the 71-fonts-install.bat. The message says "This will install 71-fonts. Press any key to continue..." Ok I push enter and the screen just disappears. Is that right? I was expecting something like a verification message saying something like successful or done.

Nope. It's a batch file that just does it. You can check the timestamp of the font files in the fonts dir if you want, but it just does its thing. Now install your exploit. smile.gif

Yes, thats right.
What the .bat file actually did was copying the fonts of the 71-fonts folder(bert-generic.xtf and ernie.xtf) to the uxe-c-replace/fonts folder. If you go there you will see the to files.

btw, dont forget to run the nkpatcher-06-install.bat OR the nkpatcher-67-install.bat. If you use the stock HDD use nkpatcher-06-install.bat, if you have a hdd larger then 137 Gigz use nkpatcher-67-install.bat. You will get the message "This will nkpatcher support.... Press any key to continue..." push enter and the screen will disappear. The files are now in uxe-c-replace/fonts/nk

just as a bit of a side note....if you're using a bigger hard drive, you don't necessarily need to use the 67 version of nkpatcher. that will give you an F and a G drive. you can use the 06 version if you only want an F drive and don't want to need to deal with a seperate G drive.

**the only time you actually NEED to use the 67 version (both F and G drives) is if you are going to use a hard drive bigger than 250 GB because then the partitions would be too big for the xbox to handle

oh, tnx cmiz.
I didnt know that, a long time ago I read a tut on xbox-scene, which said that the partitions can handle 137 Gigz max. I think thats why I always thought is was 137 and not 250

250 isnt a physical limitation, but it seems partitions bigger than this corrupt easier.

Never knew this either.. Had the same understanding as Lord_Vader.. Thought the limit was 137GB and everything above needed the 67 version.

Thanks for clearing up smile.gif

Hi,

I did it.
And I done it succesfully.
I put the story here how ive done it, if there are any more newbies they can read this.

First Ive downloaded the following files:
- uxe-complete-v0.2.1.bz2
- MechAssault savegamehack

and thats it if you need to know where Ive downloaded the files you can always PM me.

After that I went to a friens house, asked him to copy the mechassault save to his xbox and copy it to my memcard.

I inserted the game and loaded Run Linux. Evox booted, I FTPed into my xbox and made a backup of my C partition.

Then I unzipped the uxe-complete v0.2.1 package and read the readme. I installed the 71-fonts cause they must be tried first and installed the nkpatcher-06 because I use a stock harddrive.
I FTPed into my xbox and deleted everthing on the C: partition comp.gif
Right the millisecond after that I copyed all the files in the uxe-c-replace folder to my C (the files, not the folder itself rotfl.gif )
Shutdown mu xbox, count to five and turned it back on.

Evox booted. The mod was done!!!!! love.gif
My xbox tree was now:
+C:\
+
+--[fonts]
+------|- bert-generic.xtf
+------|- ernie.xtf
+------|-[nk]
+----------|-devz3ro
+----------|-nkpatcher.xbe
+----------|-[apps]
+----------------|- [detacher]
+-----------------------|-default.xbe
+----------------|- [isoripper]
+-----------------------|-backup.cfg
+-----------------------|-default.xbe
+----------------|- [shadowcmaker]
+-----------------------|-default.xbe
+----------|-[dashboard]
+----------------|-default.xbe
+----------------|-evox.ini
+----------------|-[skin]
+---------------------|-Skin stuff etc.
+--xboxdash.xbe

I did other optional things after that, it isnt neccesary. I updated the evox with a newer version and made a menu tree to my likings.
Copyed emulators, roms, homebrew, XBMC, linksboks and more stuff to my E: drive. Installed more skins trainers.....

Thats it!!!! xbox is like a new machine!!!!!

Im going to write a tutorial soon which explains newbies clearer how to install uxe.
NOTE:I used a memcard to get the savegame on your xbox, if you prefer hotswapping or some other read the tuts and forums about that.

Excellent. Thanks. I've been running a chip for a year or two but wanted to see what the hubbub was about here.

Some things to consider...

What is Run Linux? I haven't played MA in a while, so maybe it's an option on the MA screen? Seems rather odd to have an option or program called "Run Linux" at the MA bootscreen, so how did you get to it?

What did you do with the MA savehack? You say you downloaded it, but I don't see you saying you accessed it or loaded it. Is that the "Run Linux?" Hey, you said you wanted this to be clearer for newbies.

Why did Evox boot? I see no previous reference to Evox, nor did you mention that you downloaded it, like you did the others. Did your Evox boot from a disc you made or did you copy it to the HDD without telling us?
