It has been a long day today. Let's see if I can recount what has happened. (nothing good)

-Installed xapt3r and chip. Went smoothly.

-Installed bigger hard drive.
-keeps turning on and off and then stays on finally. The light flashes red and green and there is no video.
-I figure the new HDD needs to be formatted and that's the reason it's doing it.
-I put the stock HDD in and the blue screen comes up. Good.
-Now I have trouble networking and reading a CD/RW. Don't know how to get a bios on currently because of this...
-Finally get the networking up. Try to transfer a bios, says it's going but I walk into the room with xbox and it has shut off.
-I exit out of the bios update and go back to the xbox.
-Won't turn on...
-turns on, turns off, turns on, turns off, turns on and stays now...
-No picture at all and the light is flashing red and green.

I have checked and rechecked the installation. The chip is on good. I do have the solderless adapter made for this if that makes any difference. Please give me some tips on this. I must get this working as I spent $180 on the 3 parts: X3CE, xapt3r, and a hard drive. I will be extremely pissed off if that money was wasted.

Did you desolder the LPC?
Make sure the Xapter is aligned.

I thought the solder could stay there if I was using the xapter. unsure.gif

Here's an update: I turned the thing on while looking at the motherboard and the chip started smoking for a half second. That's got to be bad. What would cause that?

One more question here... The d0 is supposed to make something glow red on the xapter. Is it supposed to continuously stay red or blink red once? Mine blinks once and then goes off. I've seen pics of a red LED, but I'm not sure if they took that pic while it was blinking or not. Anyone know this?

If it smoked it was probably the mcpx so your board is toast, unless its the chip in which case thats toast.

Can you see any damage on the chip? It could be a short. Does your X-box boot without the chip?

Thats why you can't align it.

The xbox boots with the chip disconnected.

There are no visible burn marks on the chip or anywhere near the chip on the motherboard, front or back.

The xapter stays in place and all 3 of the blue LED's come on. The D0 LED blinks once.

What should I check for?

It turns on and off 3 times. After that it does one of two things. If it is not plugged into the tv, I believe the green light flashes. If it is plugged into the tv, the red and green light flashes and nothing appears on the tv.

I have the standard bios that came with it. I finally got the update started but as soon as I walked into the room with the xbox I saw it was shut off. I canceled out of the network flash on my computer. I'm not sure if it had a partial install or not. But if you look back up at the top, the third dash, my xbox was doing the red and green thing there also... Before I ever tried to flash it.

The first bios I tried to install was something about evolution x. Failed install so I deleted it off my computer. Then I read the X3 specific bios is better so I went back and downloaded this bios:
"X3_3294"

Is that the correct one for me?

And what else could possibly be causing this?

Please guys I am having such a hard time with this.

The only thing I can think of doing going with the solder method.

I tried booting up with the 256k back-up and it kept fragging. The light was purple. The console started up and shut off 3 times. Then it stayed on flashing the green and red light.

The xapter has three blue led's and the D0 is good. The chip lights up with 2 blue led's around the big black cable. There is a red one too indicating the flash protection is off.

I am using the standard cables now instead of S Video. Neither work.

Is it possible bad HDD and LAN soldering could be doing this?

It would have to be REALLY bad soldering of HDD or LAN wires.

A full solder install is probably the best way to go. If you aren't cofident to do it yourself, find someone who is.

I soldered all of the wires into the LPC.

My xbox still does the same thing.

I took the chip out and my bare xbox is fragging now.

What the hell happened... What do I do?

Should I try to return the chip and see if they'll send a new one out? How do I know if my motherboard is fried or not? What kind of tests can I do to see if it is only the chip's fault? Could solder splash from the LPC do this?

Look around the mobo with a magnifying glass. Look for drops of solder, or pulled traces. This is what could be causing the xbox to 'frag'
