I am attempting to fix my friends elite xbox360, rrod, error 0102, however when i got inside i learned that someone else had tried before me, these are pictures of what this person did on the bottom of the mobo, please advise, should I remove them or ignore them? My friend has no idea how they got there, as he got the xbox second hand. It was my intention to do a heatgun reflow, then an x-clamp replacement, per the excellent tutorials located on this site. Thanks for any advise, guys

Actually, these are definetly homemade, they are very thick, unevenly cut from a pink rubber eraser. I've never seen any fix attempt that involved glueing these to the back of the ram, seems like shotty work to me.

Im sorry from the 1st pic they look like the original pads from MS but if going to use the heat gun then you really shouldnt need those, I think the dude that fixed before tried somthing similar to the Team Xecuter's RRoD repair kit

Actually it looks a lot like the kit from Team Executer found here http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/zz-36-xsrk.html There fix involves replacing the soft plyable squares on the bottom on the RAM with gray square solid things, with adhesive backs. The therory behind it is to keep the board from flexing. Not sure how well they work, but didn't help with my chroincly bad one.

I assume the MS tag had already been peeled off?

Oh ya, the warranty sticker was torn beforehand, I can attest that this method definitely did not work for this particular box, else It would not be in pieces atm, tongue.gif

Ye it is even necessary to take these off because otherwise the RAM will be pressed flatly against the mainboard...
