I have 2 Xbox's both are 1.6 versions built the same year. They both have a Xenium Ice chip in them. Xbox # 1 has the stock hard drive and am using evolution X M8 bios. Xbox #2 has a 200 gig hard drive and am using Evolution X M8 bios unleash X. It also has avalaunch, XBMC, DongleFree DVD & various Emulators.

The problem is when I try to play the same back up disc that my #1 xbox plays fine. It won't work in my #2 xbox. this seem to be a problem with 25% of the -R discs am using.

The #2 xbox will not play any type of +R dics, but the #1 will.

What could be the cause of this problem there basically the same xbox's other than the hard drive and some extra software in the #2 xbox.

I always use quality brand media to burn the games on.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It depends on your dvd drive probably. Some drives will read different type of media better than others ( for ex. some will not read dvd +r's).
Check here to determine what type of drive you have:

Try a different type of media (dvd-r's or a different brand) and see if that helps.

Both are using Samsung Drives and I always use quality media such as Phillips, TDK, & Memorex.

Like I said the first Xbox will load and play all the -R discs but the #2 xbox will not fully load the same back up discs.

For most of the back ups that don't work, they will start loading but get stuck after a few of the opening screens.

To me it has to be something in the software of the #2 xbox but I am not sure.

Any Ideas?

Have you tried cleaning out the E:cache folder and also the x,y & z partitions on the xbox that is causing the problem? As this often helps.

None of these are what I would say are quality at this point. They are currently outsourcing to manufacturers that are average at best. Memorex -R are CMC Magnetics or Prodisc, TDK seems to be producing it's own dye which isn't bad but once again you can do better for the Money. Phillips I believe also outsources to CMC Magnetics. Do yourself a favor and go with nothing but the best as what you are describing is almost certainly a media flaw. No two drives (even of the same make) will read the exact same things. Check out http://www.shop4tech.com right now. You can get 100 4x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R (Taiyo Yuden are considered top notch for quality and compatiblity and unlike the brands you have listed TY is actually a manufacturer so you never have to guess who is making the discs and what to expect) for $32 shipped and if you enter in the following coupon code: xpbargains10 you can get an additional 10% off of them. Thereby knocking it down to $28.80 shipped for 100 4x TY DVD-R discs. Some burners and firmware revisions will burn these at 8x.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I first cleaned out the E cache folder and them put in all the games that hadn't worked now they work.

I always figured that if you bought discs from a company that had been know to produce quality recording material they would countine to make quality products with there DVD + & - R's. I guess some how theses companies went the cheap way to make more profit.

Thanks for the link, I'll order some as soon as I finish off the rest of my discs.
