I have an old broken box. I suspect the HD to be the problem. I have read a tut on replacing the drive without a modchip. I have a softmodded box (not the broken one). My question is, can I backup my softmodded drive to a say 20 gig drive and put it in the broken box, without problem? I know of the marriage theory, I don't plan on using the broken box on Live anyway. So can I just make a backup, put my softmodded drive back in the softmodded box, put the backed up new drive in the broken box? Really does the eeprom matter if I don't need to sign into Live? Basically what I would like to have is 2 softmodded box, 1 stock and 1 stock with a 20 gig HD. Eventually I will get a bigger HD, but 20 is all I can get a hold of, hey it was free.99, how can I refuse.
Also as another question, could I just take my softmodded HD and put it in my broken box, just to check if that is what is wrong?

OK, so my setup now won't work. How about this? Can I put a modchip in the broken one and put a brand new drive in? Sorry, I don't know much about chips yet.

I assume the broken box is a HDD fault. Yes you could chip the broken box and install a new balnk drive and format and build it all with the use of an autoinstaller disc like Slayers 2.6

^^^he is right on the money^^^^
as allways a hacked bios doesnt need a locked hard drive, or even a hard drive with data on it to load up.
so just cold boot with a blank hdd,a nd a copy of unleashx burnt to dcd in teh dvd drive, and when you turn it on, teh disc will see that teh hard drive is blank, and ask you if you want to format it, and put all the necessary files onto it.

Like I said I don't know much about chips, but he has 1 x3 and said he made a mistake flashing it. He said he has to get another one to flash it with. But since he had to get 2 he is giving me one, because I inform him about programs and all kinds of cool stuff about modding. Can somebody answer that too, is it true if he made a mistake all he has to do is reflash it with another chip?

yes. if he flashed it with an incompatable bios. he woudl have to boot one up that works, then swap the chips over while the xbox is on (hot swap), and then flash the one with a dodgey bios.

I think you missed the point, the soft mod isnt broken, to fix a hdd problem on an unmodded box you would need a chip. You format the hdd lock it and remove chip or leave the chip in and leave the hdd unlocked
