Ok, I tried posting before and members with the exception of PK did not reply so I guess I did not give enough detailed information because I know there are some very helpful people on this forum. In the meantime I have read literally hundreds of pages of literature, PDFs, and posts and while that did not help me fix my problem I feel I can more accurately describe it.

I was flashing a Ms28 and it failed half way through, and from then on out the via card never worked so I replaced it, so now I have a new via card (VT6421A) a MS28 with half a flash and an original and modified firmware file.

I bought the same via card that I used before and reinstalled the drivers, and did not install the via raid tool, as per Textbook's instruction, and also used his link for the most up to date drivers. I used iPrep to prepare a new flash drive, and replaced the backup folder with the one from my previous dump of the drive. This makes it so that as far as the flash drive is concerned it has dumped and copied the key over to the modified firmware.

When I boot from the flash drive (with all IDE and SATA devices disconnected and the MS28 plugged into the port on the via card closest to the front of my computer) into the program on the flash drive, then boot my 360 type in the command iFlash with my serial number here then hit enter, have it detect my drive as Xtreme then power down my 360, and press the corresponding number (I have waited all sorts of time intervals here before I power it back on, and I do pay close attention to the led on the power supply) when I turn the drive back on it always just says "Port: 9000, Master/Slave: a0"

and never starts flashing the banks, as it has with every other MS28 I have flashed. when I hit escape it tells me "status 00 should be 70"

Things to keep in mind:
I have tried not rebooting 360, and treating it like a MS25 as per some forum suggestions.
This is not my first MS 28 flash, I have done a few before
When I hook the 360 up to the tv I get a E65 error
I read somewhere you must disable raid for the via card (although I have done other MS28 with the same configuration) I do not know how to do this with my card THE VIA CARD I USE
I have since bought another of the same card and that did not fix my problem
I have never used a custom MTKFLASH, only one produced by iPrep which I have only read good things about.

Any help you guys and gals can offer will be greatly appreciated smile.gif

I had this same problem with mine, I kept getting a E65 error when I turned it on. I also had the status 00 should be 71 problem and etc. I did the bad flash ms28 method. I tried the 10sec trick so many times and it did not work. So finally I got it to work by doing this: I had the 360 on then typed the commands into dos, then it takes you to the place where you have to choose your sata card/drive ok, from here I turned my 360 off and waited 2-3 secs then press the corresponding number of my drive which was number 3 for me then I pressed my stop watch and waited to exactly 12sec. no more or no less because it will not work....That's how I got past that Status 00 should be 70. I hope this helps. biggrin.gif

often for flash that stops in the middle, you can correct it by doing the next one as if it was a ms25 (no 10 second)

so try
iflash xxxx..
list of port appears,
select port 1
enter
(no power down/up)

good luck

are you using xtreme bootmaker or iprep? try it with iprep if you havent yet.

you could also try it with just a hexedited mtkflash. i dont even use iprep too much involved, i only use it to make the thumbstick bootable and for the edited mtkflash. use iprep like you would if you were making a bootable thumbstick. then delete everything off the thumbstick but mtkflash files. then put your orig.bin in the ixtreme folder then make the hacked firmware with the .bat file. then copy it to the thumbstick (or whatever your using). boot to the thumbstick and type

mtkflash w /m ix12.bin (or whatever the newest ixtreme or xtreme firm. names the hacked file)

turn off the 360 and select the xtreme port, with my card i can plug it right back in and it starts flashing (got the card for 10 bucks)but you can wait about 10 sec. and turn on the xbox. should start flashing if not i dont know what your problem is.

Since the drive is getting detected that means your mtkflash is fine, so there is no need to re-hexedit that or anything; this also means your using the correct sata port. Again I've only had this issue with other sata/ide devices connected, which you've already tried with them disconnected.

Very small chance that it could be a IRQ conflict. Check the device manager: right click on my computer - properties, hardware tab, device manager, SCSI & Raid controllers and make sure there isn't a yellow exclamation point next to Via VT6421 and no conflicts listed under the card's properties - resources tab (should say no conflicts at the bottom).

Other than that the next best thing would be to try using another pc. You only need to insert the pci card and boot to your usb drive, you do not need to install the card in windows, the drivers, or iprep (because your mtkflash will still be 100% correct on any system).
