how to be a forum regular that so full of himself he feels superior to all others:

start a pointless thread that bashes newbies for not knowing what to do

bash their sense of urgency

instead of helping.....bashing

read threads that you deem "pointless"

this thread is GAY - yup, said it - how much time do YOU have on your hands buddy that you feel the need to write up a huge post to bash people you don't know and obviously don't care about??

now i'm active on a number of different forums - two of which i am very regular

so i know what it's like firsthand to deal with newbies knowing nothing

however you have 3 ways to handle them - whichever you choose shows how much character you have::
1-bash the hell out of them - you are a loser with too much time on your hands-and you feel like you are important because you spend your loser time on the internet all day and have a hefty postcount to show for it - mr elite
2-help them - wow, what a novel idea - even though the answer may be obvious you take the time to type a quick response that may help someone in need
3-ignore them - because they are annoying....but you have enough character to let someone else help them and let noobs feel they can ask questions here and not get chewed out for doing so

no offense to anyone here that may have found this thread funny - there are a couple of somewhat funny things here - i'm just glad that none of you are as lame as this kid to create a thread like this

if i was a regular that hated newbies that ask "stupid" questions......i probably wouldn't look at the newbie forum at all.....

again.....someone here has NO life laugh.gif

uh....
the guy that started this thread does help people a lot (notice his almost 2000 posts in less than 6 months), he doesnt 'bash them', and like he said, it was supposed to be funny....
You are getting pretty worked up over nothing man, grab a beer and calm the hell down

btw, how exactly is this thread homosexual in nature, and what exactly do you have homosexuals to use the word 'gay' as a derogatory statement. Or perhaps you mean the 'gay' as in the adjective that those in junior high use to describe the 2.4 million things in this world that they don't like.

That's...brilliant.

Well, how much time do you have such that you feel it necessary to post in that thread?

It seems as if you're getting a bit wordy for having seemingly little experience with this particular forum.

I should hope you would reflect on how childish you're being. chefelf just intends to place a little order where he sees fit, as it is obviously necessary.

well - for one thing i'm having a having a hell of a day here at work - so i can apologize for slightly overreacting wink.gif

however i think i still have a valid point

this dude helps so many people - but only if the questions are posed the way HE wants them to be.

you need to see that post with newbie eyes which sadly you never will be able to

from my perspective - this is someone that is trying to control me

it's not enough to simply ask what is on your mind - basically it seems there are too many criteria before i can do this. a noob knows nothing. what IF someone wants a quick fix so that they can play soul caliber?? i guess this isn't the place to look? what IF they ask a question that has already been asked?? we should joke about their newbie stupidity??

i bumped my threads today - because i would like an answer - i surely am not demanding an answer - i did plenty of searches and reading here before i made my first post - whether you choose to help or not is all you - but i shouldn't have to feel i'm doing wrong by bumping my thread. is there no a chance that someone that can help has logged on since my thread fell to the next page??

again - i'm sorry for yellin - it just struck me in a bad way being a newb myself
so all i ask is for you to accept my apology but also TRY to see where i'm coming from as a newb.

"Or perhaps you mean the 'gay' as in the adjective that those in junior high use to describe the 2.4 million things in this world that they don't like. "

YES - that's exactly how i used it. i'm sorry if you are homosexual and took offense to that as i don't mean it in that way at all. this is the nature of slang though - whether it's pc or not, a million people understand what i was saying and accept it. if it seems that everyone here is supra-pc then i can follow suit no problem.

Happy New Year. smile.gif

P.S. Just for the record, heinrich, this thread is actually gay. I saw it at the club and it was dancing with a thread of the same sex. Later I saw them kissing. I'm cool with it though. Just so long as they're happy. That's what really matters.

I'm also new to xobox modding, but I understand the pain of the "seniors." How can time be spent on real questions (Those that haven't been clearly answered) and to help people who have first tried to help themselves. It's that damn ADD! Answers now, we don't need no stinkin' search button, or tutorials. Very funny post. This is a good example too ?

Is that a fact? That would be hard to prove by looking at his post history. And who cares if someone only answers questions that meet a certain standard. I didn't realize that anyone here was being paid to answered questions.
QUOTE

Nah, its not about being a 'newbie', its about being able to form a question is plain english AFTER searching for your answer.
QUOTE
from my perspective - this is someone that is trying to control me

That would make sense if he was a forum moderator, but alas, he is not. I do however have rules pinned at the top of this forum. Rules that are enforced no matter how 'gay' you find them to be.
QUOTE

Does it say not to ask for help? Its simple: provide as much information in your post as you can, AFTER you search, TRY to use correct english, and give your topic a good title, is that so much to ask?
Perhaps you should take a look at the nearly 40 page thread of people asking over and over and over if there is a defag app for the xbox. The answer hasnt changed in 18 months, yet people keep asking. Everytime someone asks, someone answers.
People (like YOU) post every single day asking what chip/bios/app they should use, without searching or looking up anything on their own. If you read the pinned topics you would see that they say NOT to ask that very question, yet you did today. Who bashed your thread, or made fun of you, or called you a 'newbie' or did anything but help you? chefelf and others answers those questions day after day. No one is saying that someone should know everything and not ask any questions, just do yourself and others on the forum a favor and do a LITTLE work first.
And yes, we should joke at stupidity, Prime example

He didnt say you shouldnt bump your thread, I believe it says not to do it every 10 minutes. Did you do that? Then why are you getting all defensive?

No, I'm not, I was simply pointing out your childish insults.

BTW, if you don't like pointless posts, dont go near general chat. And if you think this post was 'pointless', you may not want to stick around much, cause there are a shitload of pointless threads every single day.

EDIT: Last but not least, some people are assholes. They are everywhere, they even post on this forum. If you post what they think is a stupid question, they will make fun of you. Learn not to take everything so personal and get over it.

I am not trying to list some criteria for a way a post MUST be. I simply want to help people to write better posts. So many posts are just written in an undescriptive manner as to be unintelligible. Mos posts could be answered with simple searching. The posts that can't can be worded in such a way that it will be easier for the person to get help.

QUOTE

I think I can see it clearly from a Newbie's eyes. After all, I was a "newbie" in July. wink.gif I remember it quite well. It is frustrating and overwhelming. However, only through reading do you learn and progress.

it's a new day and i already gave my direct sorry to the elf so let's hopefully drop this although if you want to grudge you can go for it! wink.gif

basically what i was trying to get at yesterday was that this thread seems discouraging to newbies. it def gave me the impression "these guys jump on newbies for asking things they know nothing about"

and it's the whole "there is never a stupid question" thing, where it seems like there are a million questions here that would be deemed stupid

i don't know - it's a first impression that i'm not sure you helpful peeps want to give

from my standpoint - i know very little about computers etc. - so this site contains a WORLD of information i can BARELY comprehend - so reading through and searching only does so much for me......i need answers in simple terms my wittle brain can grasp.

i'm looking for the right chip - quickly i found that big chart showing them side to side
if these were guitars.....or stereo equip....or something i know about, this would be a great chart. however that chart tells me very little.....it's like....a different language...
so, even though i did read up on this stuff - i still have no answers or true understanding

i don't think i'll ever get a full understanding of this stuff - just enough of a simpleton explanation that ultimately allows me to reach my goal.....how i got there will probably remain a mystery to me

so there's a little more of some newb perspective for you all
i did tons of reading here before my very first post.....it just isn't quite as helpful as you may think when you are starting with a blank page in your mind
there is still more for me to read - but a lot of it is like reading an advanced physics book or something......lots of "jibberish" to me

so i asked some redundant questions - i can't spend a month trying to teach myself this stuff - i just haven't the time - and i need to mod sooner than later for financial reasons.
i never lay demands when asking for help - but going with the assumption that this forum is for help - i thought that no questions asked in a decent manner should be looked down upon. surely there are plenty that come and ask a quickie without doing any reading prior - but i DID do plenty of reading......and how can you determine that to be true??? you can't! because i'm really no smarter than when i started reading....i just have a bunch of names and terms in my head that confuse me tongue.gif

oi whatever.....my cuz was supposed to come up from NC this week and put a chip in
he's not coming so now it's all me to do this and it makes me nervous! i wouldn't have really had to learn ANYTHING if he came and did it!!!

sheeet - right now he's reading up on playing backups for the gamecube! now that is something I'll NEVER attempt to learn on my own! it's either....come and set me up....or....i'll never do this cool.gif

hey!! - here's a quick question on the top of my head.......and if this is a "bad" question for legal reasons please let me know uhh.gif

---i know you can play n64 games with an emulator or whatever........does anyone know if "South Park Rally" is out there to get ???? no need to tell me where - just.....have you seen it??? was a great game that my girl would kill to play again!

I agree, seedybrick. There is a LOT of information here. At first it is very overwhelming. I think having a linkbar across the top of the forums page (the same as on the main page of the site) would help out a lot to both linking to things. Keep in mind, a lot of people find these forums through searching and could quite easily be unaware of the main page: Xbox-Scene.com.

My thread was not meant to discourage newbies. I know there is no such thing as a stupid question. It is just that so many people just want people to hold them by the hand and spoon feed them the information. The tutorials are there for a reason. If you follow a tutorial and still have a question about something then, by all means, start a thread and we will try to help you out.

If you haven't even tried to find an answer for yourself (i.e. posting to ask how to do a HDD swap, how to install Evox, etc.) then it is insulting to us who worked through these things on our own. You can, at the very least, read up and try to get the answers for yourself. There is a wealth of knowledge that can be found on this site alone (never mind simply searching with Google). It should be utilized as a primary means of figuring things out

I'm not familiar with the game but if the game exists then the rom must exist as well. Check the emulators forum. Some N64 roms work better than others.

spoon fed is maybe a bad word

but it's kinda what someone in my situation needs

like i said - i've read a lot here and links from the main page.....it didn't get me too far

it's like learning how to play a song on the piano when you've never touched one in your life - THIS is how you read music and THIS is a 16th note and it must be played as a TRILL and so on....

i really think that to understand a lot of the stuff you guys do you need some kind of background of which i have none - so there is no "starting point" for me - it's like "here's your newbie guide now jump on in!" i jumped and drowned wink.gif

hey man - you already sold me on which chip to get - so i thank you!
now i need to find my new box with the samsung (which should be fun dry.gif )
and figure out the flashing/programming stuff?? if i get a executor lite....doesn't it come with pretty much everything i need?? everything legal that is?

ug - i have a computer friend that i hate to bug....but he might have to step in and give me some first hand help.....the last thing i want is a brand new broken xbox which i am very capable of creating unsure.gif

he wants to buy my v1 box and through linux in it to run his website off of laugh.gif

oi - all i want to do is go home and HALO!!!!!

ps - i have an addiction problem with that game - it plagues my mind blink.gif
