I really don't want to open up my 360 and was wondering if you can do firmware hacks with one of these

You need to open your 360 to do the DVD firmware hack.

The connectivity kit is used for putting the Hitachi drive in modeb so that it can be seen in Windows (for flashing). If you have a Samsung drive, you may be able to simply connect it to a SATA port on your PC and flash it after booting from a floppy or USB stick.

Read the tutorials.

Your kidding me right? you dont know how to open a .doc file?? You best just leave your Xbox sealed man you very likely will break that 400 dollar console man. Get some computer skills first before attempting this you very likeley are gonna break your 360.

you need a computer to open a .doc file.
no, newegg does not ship to canada. Try ebay.

.doc is a MS Word file. There is a Adobe PDF version of the tut around here somewhere.
