No it's crossover cable. It will say "crossover cable" on the package. There's regular patch cable (for connecting multiple computers to a hub, switch or router) then there's crossover cable for connecting two computers (or Xboxes, or an Xbox to a computer) together.

it can still be a category 5 or even cat 5e cable. just that the wires in it are "crossed over" as opposed to straight through. Questions like this would be answered better for you if tried a google search...

is it possible to just connect the xbox to a router w/ dhcp and ftp that way... i want to do it today and don't feel like going to compusa to buy crossover cable

I feel that's the only way. That way my network is always setup.

it's really not that hard, if you have a router you should allready have a clue about how it works. and one would asume it's doing dhcp for any device that connect to it. so plug cable in to it and xbox, and under whatever dash you use under the network settings use dhcp.

I might mention my xbox and router started not getting along and it wouldn't get the reight mac addy anymore so I had to tell my xbox to use a static ip and that worked fine.
