Strange problem.
I had my Xbox 1 since it was released, modded and all, been plugged in the whole time but only seldom used.
When I went today to turn it on it wouldn't.
The power brick seems fine, with a green light on it, tests fine with the red button (its the one with one green/one red button)
Can that be the issue or maybe the power receiver in the box itself has fried?
Can it just happen for no reason?

the brick thing isnt a power brick like the 360, its a cut off jobby.. they handed them out because the xboxes tended to burst in to flames because the PSU inside the xbox was a bit dodjy...
where the figure of 8 connector plugs in the back the only thing holding that in place in the xbox was some solder so they tended to get bent back and short out..
they fixed that with 2 rivets later on, but the 1st batch were given those circuit breakers. usualy sent out after a few had burst in to flames ..
You could try a diferebnt figure of 8 cable if you like..

However its most likley that some component on the PSU itself has fried out.. resistor/capasitor or more likley the fuze. It could also be that the connector has been bent which was a bit of an issue..

If you open up your xbox the power supply is on the right and its thing but runs the length of the xbox (front to back not left to right)

Check to see if there is any obvious damage to it.
this would be where i would start atleast.

Thanks for the reply will try that.
Shouldn't be anything bent as I said the Xbox/cable was not moved form that place in months. So the PSU is all the way inside the box.
Are they easily changed?

2 or 3 screws..
and then a connector to the board and the hard dis.
easy to change them you just need the right one "3 diferent ones" 1.0-1.1 / 1.2-1.5 / 1.6.

its where i would start at least..
but check all the capasators on the PSU and the motherboard.

It should be a v1.0 since I had it since launch.
Any idea where I might buy the PSU? Found a few shops online but they only have 110v version which is useless for Europe. No luck on ebay either.

I may have one im in the uk so europe shipping may be reasonably acceptable idk..
power here is "240v" 50hz.
I will check my power supplys.

i will need you to at the least check what connector it has on yours to verify the version.
1.0 and 1.1 have one strip connector..
like this..
IPB Image

just for giggles you have checked the fuze in the wall socket plug right?

One of my friends repairs xboxes, ps3, etc for a living so he might have a spare around will find out tomorrow.
It should be that connector alright, but will double check and let you know.
According to this http://www.estarland.com/product20763.html if the SN is like XXXXXXX 20XXX = v1.0 and the second part of my xbox's SN does start with 20...
Ofc I checked the fuse, tried different cable/socket too.

Please PM me the price for the psu + postage to Southern Ireland, just in case my friend does not have one.
Thanks smile.gif

royal mail seems incredibly expesive for what it is..
I have no idea where they pull £12+ from as postage but it sure stinks. i have managed to send whole xboxes for less than that via +collect so i will go look and see what they want to charge..
I have to drive 5 miles to drop the parcell off with them though so with fule costs it may end up just as rediculous.

just checked the posstage and its simply not a realistic option for me to send you a psu, the postage alone is over £12 i cant believe that a 2nd hand xbox from a carboot sale would cost that much.

Its a bit of an insult really because the ferry that goes to dublin is only about 25 miles away from me. it would almost be cheaper for me to deliver it in person.

I havent seen one that bad before... strange for it to burn out like that especialy near a resistor.
i can only imagine that its right next to a transistor...

any way i do have a psu for you like stated in the pm's
Its wraped up and ready for weighing in the post office tomorrow for the alternative address you gave me.
hopefully it will be the same postage or less than the internet quoted.

Im glad you checked though. i was starting to second guess my diagnosis wouldnt liek to diagnose then sell an item and turns out to be something els.

Well it did last 10 years to be fair. I'd like to see my 360 do that, oh wait I've changed 3 already.
Goes to show that even that fancy switched power cable M$ sent me was still useless and that could easily catch fire from the inside.
Let me know how you get on with the mail.
And that psu you have works 100%?
