Well i was updating my brothers xbmc and renamed the xbe file (default or xboxdash i cant remember) in c drive. Now it wont boot and get an HDD error. I am not able to ftp to it. I do not have the oringinal C and E folders or the HDD key. It was softmodded.
I know i totally screwed up. With that said, what are my options to get this working again? |

I fixed my error 21 by doing the following. Download either the Slayer's or Hexen iso. Either of them contain the stock M$ files. Download a program called xplorer360. Hot swap your xbox hard drive and then plug it into your computer. Open xplorer360 and under "file" click load hdd. I then deleted everything in partition 3 and copied the stock M$ files from Slayer disc into partition 3. Hook everything back up turn off your xbox and turn it back on and it should be back to stock.
If you don't want to loose your softmod I'm assuming yuo could do the same thing but copy over the missing files instead of the stock M$ ones. I'm still pretty new to xbox modding so maybe wait until a more experienced member offers advice |

You should have your eeprom backed up. This would allow you to access your hard drive without hotswap using xboxhdm(usb). If you don't have it, go with the hotswap and backup your eeprom when you get it working. Consider doing this too.. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=683310

The hot swap is quite easy. There are a few ways but I find the easiest is t do it with the dvd rom. Basically take apart your xbox and unplug the ide cable from your dvd-rom drive. Boot up your xbox and as soon as you see the error 12 come up pull the ide cable out of the xbox hard drive. That's it.
Plug it into your computer and open xplorer360. If it doesn't detect open up your device manager and right click on disc drives and click scan for hardware changes. It should show up after that. If you're running vista or win 7 make sure you run explorer360 as administrator. |

So which ide cable do i use on the pc, both my drives on the pc are sata drives? do i use the master ide for the dvdrw,? and i am running win 7 32bit. Also, when plugging in to pc, does pc need to be off or on? thanks EDIT: got it by plugging into the first ide on the cable not second. This post has been edited by onekelly: Apr 29 2011, 07:55 PM |

ok, re unamed the xboxdash file and now it boots up again that was lucky. Thanks for your help! Now i will backup c and e directory along with eeprom.
Now i have to go back and update xbmc to latest build and then i just want to upgrade HDD to a little bigger one (currently its only the 9 gig one that came with xbox). I have only upgraded a chipped xbox never a soft modded one, any preferences on tutorials? Thanks again |
