I need some help! I have a 1.6 box that I messed up the motherboard in so I purchased a new board. I insltalled the new board (with no chip) and now it wont boot up. when I turn the box on it turns on and off twice, then on the third time it turnes on and the console flashes red, orange red orange over and over. I have been told that I need to unlock my hard drive and then re-lock it to the new motherboard. I don't have a clue what to do. I don't wan't to buy a new HD because the one that I need to unlock is a 250gig drive.

Chip it, un-lock hd, relock it.
Unless of course the hd you want to unlock was locked to the broken 1.6 board. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but i believe thats all you have to do. PS- I recomend getting an x3 chip |

You need the eeprom data to unlock the hdd...unless you locked it with a prog like configmagic.

It would be easiest to chip the xbox to install HDD. But You do not have to lock your HDD, with a chipped box. Locking allows you to launch retail bios from boot, and xbox live other than that really no need to. |

So if I chip the xbox the HD should work with the new board even if the HD was working with the board I messed up. The messed up board was chipped if that matters.

Lets pretend I fix the broken board, how do I go about unlocking the HD so I can re-use the HD with the new board? Or is there another way to unlock a HD?

how do I get config magic? I also read somewhere that you can un-solder the eeprom chip if the board is beyond repair
