Actually, he will have a problem doing this - unless I've missed something with mine.

The default setup (once you've added you devices and activities) sets the remote to turn off unused devices when you switch to a different activity. What happens is..say your watching tv, which requires your cable box and your tv to be on, then you switch to play 360 - it will turn off your cable box and turn on your 360 - it knows your TV is already on, so it leaves that. Now, you can set certain devices to always on, which is what I did for my cable box, but AFAIK, you can't make it turn something on, but not off - it's one or the other.

^^my only complaint.

thanks alot. I would have bought that remote today.....looks like you just saved me some money/hassle

yeah.. there should really be customized setups.. like "going from playing xbox to cable" and have it not shut my xbox off... which just happened 5 minutes ago.

maybe theres a way around this

There is, Go into the setup program & edit your activities. there are options there to tell the remote to "not" turn off certian devices as it switches activities. The Harmony remote is very customizable! Another tip: Use the harmony website instead of the app that you install on your pc. It is a lot faster & not as buggy! (you still need to have it on your pc to allow the remote to update & things.

This remote works pefrect. Its user error that you guys are experiencing. You can set it to virtually anything you would need, just look thru the options.

Edit: As for the battery life, the remote screen goes blank after a few hrs of not touching it. Everytime I use it in the morning it's off, and when i pick it up all the light light up. (some sort of sensor i guess)

That feature is called "always on", I think. I did that for the xbox, but the problem is - now it will NEVER turn the xbox on OR off. I would like it to turn it on initially, if it is not on, and I would like the main power button to turn everything off, period, but I don't think it's going to happen.

Dont get be wrong, I wouldnt give up this remote for anything - the problem I am describing doesn't bother me much, because I use the 360 controller to turn my 360 on/off...Im going to be reaching for that anyways, so no big deal I guess.

it all goes back to appliances or devices have a "discreet power on/off" or a "toggle on/off"

this issue is common with alot of programmable remotes that utilize macro "activity switching"
its because the remotes dont know if the device is on or off from the get go, so it auto turns off whatever.
kinda confusing but you guys can look more into it at remotecentral.com
