The xbox this is happening with is a v1.0 It has a WD250JB installed replacing the original hard drive. This drive has the soft mod on it. The softmod has been working fine for several months. I did the splinter cell exploit with Crazies Ndure 1.1. Now on to the problem. Last night I turned on, or tried to turn the xbox on anyway, and I got a flashing green light then it went off, then flashing green again, then off and then it started flashing red and green and stayed on. Sometimes It does this, other times, the green light goes solid and it freezes up in the middle of the X screen when you first turn the box on, when the green logo is like flashing and morphing then it freezes up. It started out only doing this once in a while, and so i didn't think anything of it, and then the xbox started freezing while in the dashboard (I use XBMC) It would freeze at different points, and also in different programs not only xbmc. I thought well maybe my soft mod went to shit, so I went back to the stock hard disk, and it does the same thing on the stock one(which has the soft mod installed but using UnleashX as the dash). I thought It might be a overheating error, as one of the sequences I got indicated, but after i left the xbox off for 12+ hours It still does the green flashing, then off then green flashing then off and then red/green flashing and stays on. And when the green is flashing and it turns off, the hard drive and the dvd drive seem to both spin up. Im not sure if this should be in this section or the soft mod section because I do not know where the problem is.

Any help would be very appricated. I have searched around for the past 2 hours and could not really find anything, a few things related, and i tried them, and still no go.

This is often caused by a bad mod install however since your's is a soft mod it might be due to a bad connection on one of your points. I would check your standard point on your MoBo, possible scraped traces, and/or splatter from solder.

Thats what i came across with searching for the error sequence. But where I did the soft mod, I have *not* come near it with a Soldiering Iron. Plus last night im thinking well maybe something got damaged, but I have never had it open except for when i swapped the hard drives, and it worked fine for 3 monthsish after. I did notice that sometimes it does boot, sometimes it does not, but when it does boot it tends to freeze up, and once it freezes it seems that you have to let it sit for about 10 mins before it will boot up again. If anyone has any other suggestions or tips or thought, just anything at all, im pretty much willing to try anything right now.

Alright so I took the whole box apart, and checked the board for messed up traces, anything burnt or anything that didnt look right, and I cam up with nothing. I did notice some marker scribblings that were there all along, but i never really took notice to. But everything appears to be seated correctly, and its not dusty or anything... Anyone have any ideas why it continues to FRAG?

Bad Ram, Bad MCPX chip. Possibly, but unlikey, bad PSU. Small chance it's the TSOP, but unlikey from what you described. You can replace the motherboard, might solve everything. Otherwise you could take a chance and try installing a modchip, but it could be a waste of time...

Thanks, probably what I will end up doing is just getting a new box, there pretty cheap now, and I use it for everything under the sun. Last night I took it all apart and checked everything, and plugged it all back in, and it seems to FRAG less frequently, so it might be ok, its been running for 4 hours so far and has not crashed. So it seems to be intermittent. Im thinking I will find one of the green xboxes, I think that was the one with the better dvd drive, this one has a Thompson one in it and I hate it. So i will probably get a new box and just swap drives.
