NetFlix Streaming Performance Statement

From netflix.com:
Recently some Netflix members using Roku or Xbox movie players noticed lower quality streaming than they had experienced earlier. This was a temporary issue that we believe we have resolved. Working with our content distribution partners and key carriers, we made some specific changes that should restore everyone's experience to where it was before - high quality streaming.
I finally signed up for Netflix about a week ago.
I was a member of the Blockbuster equivalent (I technically haven't canceled my account yet) instead, because I liked having the ability of physically going to a store to get a free movie every month - a feature Netflix could never offer. Later on, they added the ability to return the mailed discs to the store - where they would be considered returned - and pick up 3 extra movies to watch immediately while I waited for my shipped movies to arrive. That meant that at any given time, I could have 6 discs out at once, without having to worry about ever returning any of them at any specific date. I think they have since done away with that feature, but it almost seemed too good to be true at the time, so I never had a reason to switch. I suddenly was injured in a way where I haven't been able to drive at all for the past year, so even though I've been paying the monthly fees, I still have the same 3 discs from last year. Part of it was due to my injury, but the main reason for that is because I've been too lazy to return them and it hasn't been a priority for me.
I had heard about Netflix streaming some time ago, but I was not enticed because I am not typically going to sit in front of a computer to watch movies. Once they added Xbox streaming, I started to think about switching because it seemed like Netflix now had more to offer. Even with this huge addition, Netflix actually costs less than Blockbuster for the same 3 disc plan.
Like I said, I finally signed up for Netflix about a week ago and I love it. I have Verizon FIOS, so unless I'm downloading something at full speed at the same time, I always get the best quality picture (which looks beautiful in many cases). I realize that not everyone can have the best connection, so I feel bad for them, but I'm sure that will continue to improve over time.
I haven't seen it talked about, but I am very impressed that I've yet to reach a maximum in my queue. I thought I was going to be told that I reached a max when I hit 10, then 20, and so on. I have close to 50 movies/shows. That's awesome. I'd love to be able to add more content from the Xbox itself, but that's not too big of a deal to me, so I can't complain.
My only complaint for now is the quantity of the content, since the quality is already superb to me. There is decent amount to start with, but once I watch all of the shows and movies I'm interested in, I'm going to need more to keep me happy. I can be patient because I know it'll happen as time goes on. For now, I give the new feature of Netflix streaming an A-. Once content goes up, that will become an A+ to me.
I just hope they don't have any issues with the ISPs out there, therefore increasing our price for the same product.

I hate to double-post, but the board wouldn't allow me to edit my original post. I actually have a question about what devices this can be activated on at the same time. This is from the FAQ on the Netflix site: QUOTE - The number of personal computers or devices that can be used for simultaneous viewing varies according to your plan size: 1-disc plans may watch on one device at a time, 2-disc plans on up to two devices at the same time, 3-disc plans on up to three devices, and plans with four or more discs on up to four devices simultaneously.
- Members on a Netflix unlimited plan may activate up to 4 unique devices on an account during a twelve month period.
Obviously, I have my Xbox activated, and then I also started watching a movie on my laptop when I signed up, so I assume that is activated too (which is what I would want anyway). I still have the ability to add one more device, so I'm curious if I can add another Xbox. You see, I live in NJ, but I have a younger brother who also has an Xbox, but lives in FL. Even though he would have to use my queue, I don't see anything that states that wouldn't be allowed. If so, that also makes me wonder what would happen if he wanted to sign up for Netflix on his own and whether or not he would have issues activating his Xbox for his account.

One xbox at a time. I activated my xbox just to test it out see how it worked. Then activated my g/f. Went back to my xbox and I would have to reactivated it if I wanted to use it

I would think you would be able to for a few reasons . I had to reactivate my 360 with that code that pops up when you install the netflix app to your 360 and it said you can only activate or reactivate your 360's 4 time in a year. underneath your profile id on netflix when you are looking at your activation page it gives you the optioin for activation and deactivation just by that I would say yes you can. I have a buddy that has live and lives 2 blocks from me ima test it out after he gets off work tonight. The only thing I would be concerned about is if you and your brother are logged in at the same time if it would boot one of the 360s off. You can create another mini account under your account and also try it that way 2. I ll leave what I find here later on tonight. This post has been edited by PHC oMaLz: Dec 6 2008, 01:02 AM

So this is what I just found out about netflix You can activate more than one 360 to an account. Just install or reinstall netflix on the second 360 get the activation code and go to netflix.com and log in with the netflix account and password and then goto www.netflix.com/activate (I believe thats the address to active a 360.) add type in the code on the second 360 that netflix gives you (on your pc) and the second 360 will update to a new screen with your que listed on it. Also I noticed that you can pick up where you left off during a movie (ex. resume 23%) and pick up watch it at the same place the other 360 is watching it. now the little test was done in 5mins. I'm not 100% sure that you will not be cut off during a 2 hour movie or if one of the 360's will be booted off of netflix while one is watching a different movie. This was all done under 2 360 profiles from two different houses and only one netflix account. I hope this will help you out. winger46146 you don't have to take your 360 off the list just add your girl friends 360 to the list and you will see both 360s are active and working with netflix. with a 3 movie subscription, you are are allowed to stream up to 3 movies simultaneously and you can also link to different gamertags. for this situation, you can create a profile for your brother and even if you assign 0 physical discs to that account, he will be able to watch instanly from that profile from any pc or activated device. once his 360 is activated, it will be linked to your netflix account, even if somebody else uses a different gold account to login. he will probably have to deactivate it from his profile on your account before he can activate it for use with a new netflix account. the only other "hard" limit to note is that you can only activate 4 devices per 12 month period(and your pc does not count towards that number). this info can be found on netflix.com support as well, but any device that is active at the date of this yearly reset will count towards the 4 active unit limit of the next 12 month period; which means if you both lost your 360's to warranty, loss or damage, you could activate 2 more 360's and then would not be able to activate another device until the reset date.

If you have enough bandwidth to go around, a good router with QoS will make sure your video plays smoothly while your computer downloads files. I have owned routers by Netgear, Linksys, AT&T, and D-link, and my favorite by far is my current D-Link DIR-655. It not only has QoS but it also has a feature called WISH which gives wireless devices more dedicated bandwidth if you use certain programs like media center on your xbox.
