Petitions are a waste of time. I've never had a petition I signed work. Also understand that M$ is in it for the money, why would they extend to a YEAR? If anything they'd extend another month and that's probably all you'll get out of them.

Well it does explain the price difference with europe though (in the Netherlands we get 1 yr warranty if I'm not misstaken and in Germany they'll probably get 2 years).

If you calculate in the US price + extra warranty it's probably the same price.

worth at least signing... #445!

not that MS doesnt already know, but with enough sigs, maybe theres a 0.0001% chance they might up it a little, right?

i think 6 months should have been bare minimum.

They should make it all the same for all the countries really.... I mean its 1 year in the UK (probably due to regulation but still)

Well in US they have cheaper price, so in some way it's only fair. But MS probably just doesn't want to increase price even more and like this it "looks" like it's cheaper.

As some others have noted, these petitions rarely ever do anything. MS knows of the problems for long time, yet they dont change their policy, you think a petition is going to do anything ?

Specially one that "DEMANDS" something from a major corporation.

I know it sucks only 90 days, but if you ever did any QA work, or took some clases in a technical school you would realize the math and statistics that goes behind setting the warranty period. Its done so that the majority of units that do fail are covered, usually in the 95 or 96.5% range, under their testing scheme.
Surely they dont test the units inside cabinets, or with the PSU covered (ie heat issues) which is where people are having the problems, this would increase the defective rate.

Maybe it would be more reasonable if the consumer pays for shipping, and then MS fixes it for free (within 2 years or something long).

In the end, its all about $.

We need to get some european laws up in the USA for warranties. Bill Gates probably knew the 360 was gonna meltdown after 90 days. But yeah, M$ isn't going to do anything. A bunch of customers are mad, they still have a ton more.

From the 'privacy' policies of petitiononline.com:

QUOTE
A valid email address is required as part of each petition signature. This email address is used to privately confirm signatures. It is not added to any mailing list at PetitionOnline.com, and it is not sold to third parties.

We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, and to administer our Web site. Your IP address is used to gather broad demographic information.

They say nowhere that they do not give away your e-mail address or simply offer it for free to a "business relation". The fact that they also register IP addresses is also interesting.

Sure, sign and help the spammers. And lets just face it, MS won't even care. Just a bunch of (mostly anonymous) people who sign an online petition without a guarantee that every vote is from a single individual from the USA. This will only provide a good laugh for one day in Redmond.

Europe does not get a 2 year warranty at all, Germany does, and fucking Germany isn't the whole of Europe you fuckin moron.

In the UK all companies have to supply a 1 year warranty on pretty much everything that is sold here (there are exceptions). What alot of people over here dont know though is that under the "sale of goods act" certain types of items (consoles being one of those) can be expected to last up to 5 years, and at anytime during that 5 years you can expect to get the item repaired or replaced (at the manufactures cost), and if that is not possible you can get compensation for loss of use, or in some cases a refund.

I think it would be a better idea to sign a petition to change the state laws and create a required minimum waranty period.

I strongly disagree with the extended waranty plan purchases. I think that is the bigest scam. Best Buy and MS probably make a huge portion of their profits from people buying the Extended Waranty plan. I mean hell, have you ever tried checking out at an electronics store without having an employee try to shove the extended waranty plan down your throat? Do you really think they do that because they are so genuinely concerned about the life of your product? unsure.gif

not so genuninely concerned about you, but there back pocket. remember theres not going be any profit on the console itslelf if there is its gonna be very little. if i remember my sales training it was something like 40-60 % profit margin on extended warranty's, then you slap on the games which is usally 25-50 % profit margin, then some accessories another 10-20%. then again i wouldn't say the extended warrantys are useless either just before the extended warranty runs up push the console down the stairs or somthing and get a full refund.

Gee slightly of topic I had an £850 laptop for my 18th birthday (AMD 64 3200+, 512MB, 40GB HD, Radeon 9700 etc) it was a really great birthday present and lasted well for one year (we get one year standard warranty in England). Now 2 months out of warranty in Feb just after I was 19 it stopped working. It wont turn on no lights nothing. I've been advised it might be the motherboard, the repair could be up to £300-400 if it's the motherboard, Fujitsu Siemens want £100 to just look at it.

We tried to threaten Fujitsu Siemens with Sales of Good act but it didn't work (electronic items should work up to 6 years after warranty in a usable state in England).

Same goes with the X360, but you guys should thank your self lucky as a Premium X360 is only £280. Look at my laptop, it's now an £850 paperweight, life sucks, you cant do anything against these evil corporations you just have to get extended warranty and live with it.

I wish I did.
