DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!! I did and it took 2 weeks to get here, much less it didn't totally work. By totally I mean that I believe the USB to Serial adapter was screwed as it never recognized the COM port after multiple installs of the drivers and reboots and such. Bit the bullet and ordered a Maximus Xtractor, and it did the trick the first time. If your going to do it, cheaper isn't always better.

hmm, did you install driver correctly? have you done a loopback test?

The latest driver is here:

I think it "may" work... but pls don't quote on me... MAX3232 can take 5V but not sure if this will do any harm to your lite-on. With DVD adapter, how are you going to power your lite-on? use 360?

Got my kit tonight from diygadget.com (Took 10 days to reach UAE, which is pretty low compared to the time it takes other stuff to get here). All looks good, hope it works out fine biggrin.gif

Officially placed my order last night, however this guy hasn't been responding to my emails (pre and post purchasing--ebay, btw). I decided to order anyway even tho he did not respond to my first emails. I'm sure he's especially busy now that 1.5 is out, but I think 5 days should be plenty of time to shoot me a quick email. Haven't heard anything back from him yet. Should I be worried?

Did he email you and let you know that it shipped? I've dealt with people before that never replied to my emails, however the item arrived within a reasonable time and I was very satisfied anyway. Just would like the extra piece of mind.

You shouldn't worry too much.
You should have received the email mentioned by ImRickJamesB1tch (if your order were shipped), you can also get the status of your shipment by sending email to track@trackmypak.com (mentioned here http://www.diygadget.com/store/order-status/info_24.html, but again, only if your order were shipped). It's holiday and weekends I guess they are busy!

No, the max3232 is only 3volts. I checked the data sheets. I went to maxim's website and that's what they say. The 232 chips may take 5 volts or 3 volts though. But as the diygadget one is a max3232 it won't accept anything else

Sweet, the piece of shit broke. Its cool though not mad as i was frustrated with the product; I see it as a 45 dollar lesson...NEVER BUY CHEAP SHIT!!! I pulled the book up i had the drive on to check something and the wires connecting to the power adaptor just came off as though they weren't even connected in the first place. Guess I'll go with a CK3 or Xtractor. Wish i had the tools/initiative to build my own.

Resoldered it and now the eject button broke mad.gif

I just received my complete Xbox 360 Connectivity Kit V2 and Solderless lite-on DVD key extractor non DB9 version in the usual bad bubble wrap shipping package. Everything looked intact. Started following this guide Xbox 360 http://www.tiaowiki.com/wiki/index.php?tit...DVD_Key_Dumping for hooking up the kit. When I got to the part about hooking the alligator clips to the voltage regulator and powering the kit back up, the power light did not turn on on the Extractor (RS232 to COM interface). No key was extracted either. All zeros. Should I assume the kit is bust? The Connectivity Kit seems ok when I eject the drive and stuff.

Thanks for your input.

That's odd. I can get the power light on the extractor to turn on if I boot to Dos but not in Windows. Is it safe to extract the LiteOn key wth DVDKey 1.2 DOS version instead of DVDKey32 0.7?

Thanks.

You have a USB to COM or native COM port? if you have another COM port, can you try the separate one?

also try loopback test mentioned in here

http://www.tiaowiki.com/wiki/index.php?tit...Troubleshooting

Even the light is off, you can still try to run the loopback test.

did you disable COM port in device manager? It is very strange, I the light doesn't turn on, it means you don't have it grounded... so for some reason, the ground is turned off in windows. also take a look of BIOS setting

Thanks for the reply. I just got back home and am going to try again. I did scratch the voltage regulator block some more with the alligator clips so perhaps it made better contact and will work in Windows again. Windows is kind of flaky for me as my system won't boot with the XBOX DVD connected and active and my system will occasionally lock up. Definitely going to flash in DOS when I get that far. Has anyone actually hit F8 on booting Windows XP and chose to boot to WinDOS or whatever it's called? I bet DVDKey32 will run there which is the tool I'm planning to use to get my key/serial data. Thinking it may work less conflicted than in pure Windows but who knows.

By the way, anyone have any metrics on how long you have between disconnecting the molex connector from the drive/kit and reconnecting it before you put the probe in and hit the button to read the key? I heard if you take more than a certain amount of time you have to pull the molex connector out and in again to get a read. Sounds almost like from the time you provide the drive power, to a certain amount of time after that (seconds?) it unlocks to read the key data and then closes down.

JR

you probably figured it out, but that will work!

this is correct - the ttl converter will accept power source of 3-5v.

that is incorrect sir - please see here where they are selling the ttl converter by itself...
"This converter uses MAX3232 for the conversion, therefore, you can power it from 3.0V to 5.0V."
