http://www.diygadget.com/store/game-consol...on/prod_45.htmland attach the crocodile clip to the red wire of a molex cable (5V)
or do I have to buy this one:
http://www.diygadget.com/store/game-consol...-2/prod_22.html to use it ?
you probably figured it out, but that will work!

I think it "may" work... but pls don't quote on me... MAX3232 can take 5V but not sure if this will do any harm to your lite-on. With DVD adapter, how are you going to power your lite-on? use 360?
this is correct - the ttl converter will accept power source of 3-5v.

No, the max3232 is only 3volts. I checked the data sheets. I went to maxim's website and that's what they say. The 232 chips may take 5 volts or 3 volts though. But as the diygadget one is a max3232 it won't accept anything else
that is incorrect sir - please see
here where they are selling the ttl converter by itself...
"This converter uses MAX3232 for the conversion, therefore, you can power it from 3.0V to 5.0V."
