Ok, I've got a couple questions: unsure.gif

1. Do you think that since the original Xbox controllers were basically a USB format, (just with a different physical plug), would we be able to use an Xbox->USB converter cable and use them on the Xbox360? (since the wired 360 controllers are USB as well) ?

2. Does anybody know if they've announced if there's a way to transfer data from an original Xbox to an Xbox360? I was thinking that since they said you could use the USB ports to put files onto the 360, maybe you could copy your saved games and profiles onto a flash drive from an original Xbox and then put them on the 360. What do you think?

1. You cannot
2. You cannot

All products that plug into the 360 have to be approved by MS for the 360. The original controller is not. I don't think you can transfer any data from the original Xbox either.

Ok, that makes some sense. But I don't understand how something MADE BY M$, wouldn't be approved by definition? I mean, they made it, right?

I agree but they didnt put the "I approve" chip inside them. All devices for 360 have to have the chip. That means no 3rd party components unless they pay royalties to MS. MS is just trying to make more money.

Probably added security also, to prevent us from doing what we do.

well you can obviously hook up non-ms things to it through usb, otherwise they wouldn't be touting that psp and ipods are compatible.

think before you talk.

Hmmm, that's an interesting point. What could that mean? Maybe they have recognition built into the 360 for "certain products," such as the iPod and PSP (products that are already out that they want to support, but don't have the "I approve" chip inside?)

Maybe the homebrew scene for PSP will make an App to mod the 360 externally

good luck trying to play project gotham with an ipod wink.gif
MS have clearly stated that all controllers for the 360 must have the correct unlock code on them which must be licensed. This will more than likely also include any periferal MS want's to manopolise on, such as the usb WIFI dongle, memory cards and any up and comming mouse/keyboard/webcam any devices that MS can not or are not going to sell specifically for the xbox, such as an ipod, digital camera etc have had drivers coded into the correct application such as the media player.
Remember USB doesn't mean it doesn't need drivers.
As far as getting old joypads working on the new xbox, you can bet that soon after launch some company in taiwan will release an unlicensed adapter for all manner of controllers, PS2, xbox etc.

And one thing to consider with saves is that a lot of xbox games now lock the saves to that xbox so you can't even migrate to another xbox let alone a 360.
I was wondering about the new live system logging your progress and such, so it almost seems like part of your game save is being recorded by live.

I don't mind them wanting to control quality for their new products, that's actually a good thing. But I have four Logitech controllers, and I think everyone would agree that Logitech is a quantum leap better than MadCatz or any other 3rd party vendor, and now they're just gonna go to waste 'cause they're not supported on the 360! I'm gonna miss my good ol' Logitech.

Anybody have any new thoughts on this subject? I recently modded my Xbox memory module to accept a USB flash drive, in hopes of possibly connecting that to a 360 and not lose my profiles. I also made a simple converter cable that takes the Xbox male port and makes it USB. I'm sure many of you have heard of these simple mods, but I'll post pics soon. Keep up the conversation!

well, it might be possible to transfer your gamesaves over your home network from the xbox to the 360

http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EE...lkuhwclNQyS.php

we won't actually know for sure until the system comes out.
