Hi guys. I am hoping someone can help me out. I was installing the ndure 3.1 softmod from this tut and during step 3 of the install I went to stand up and knocked my xbox off the computer and it disconnected the xbox hard drive from the ide cable connected to my motherboard. This was my first time trying to install the exploit from this tut.

Now before the install I tried everything to unlock the hdd. The only way I was able to unlock it was to play a song off of the hd and then pause it and do the hotswap. Every other method had failed numerous times. Well now I have the error 13 code now and I cannot get the hd to unlock at all so I can rebuild the hd with xboxhd. I am frustrated because I finally had it installing before I jumped up like an ape and disconnected any thing. Can anyone help me out with some suggestions? In the meantime I a going to keep trying to unlock the hd. Thanks for any help.

First I want to thank you for such a great job making our old xboxes work like a charm!

Some months ago I followed this great tutorial to softmod my old xbox. Hotswapped and installed ndure 3.1 through xbox hdm. I made an eeprom backup, included it into de boot cd, and swapped the hard drive for a 500gb one. I finally installed xbmc as the main dashboard and everything has gone like a charm.

I decided to get another xbox from eBay to give it to a friend as a present.
I got a very cheap one, with broken dvd and quite dirty. I also got a transparent cover.
This morning I received the xbox and I prepared the ndure dvd for the console kernel, but in the last moment I switched dvds by accident, and I used the wrong one, from the other xbox, with a different kernel.
In ndure dvd I selected option 2, xbrowser, ndure, did the backup of c, and while copying the ndure files, the dvd started making ugly noises and gave a read-error. Damn!
I started xbrowser again and run ndure install, after cleaning the dvd (and I didn't notice it was the wrong one, fool of me!!) without rebooting, and this time the process finished ok.

As the xbox didn't boot properly, I restarted from the dvd and recovered original msdash, deleting everything in c, and copying manually all files from e/backup.
Luckily the msdash started again and I even changed the date and time with no apparent problems.

Then, when I wanted to start again I noticed I had been using the wrong dvd.
This time I used the right dvd with kernel 4034. All the process went ok, and I switched back the hd into the xbox.

Now something very strange has happened. It is something like a weird output problem.
After the mslogo boot screen it loads unleash-x, but the audio and video are constantly "blinking". I can't read anything, because the image just appears for a short instant and then goes off repeatedly, and the audio is also affected by this pulsating behaviour.
I can connect to the ftp without problems, but I can't do nothing else.
If I insert an original game, after the mslogo, I get the same pulsating issues.

I have tried AID 4.X, but with same results, I can't read any text, so I can't enter the menus...

Can someone figure out what has happended with my xbox?
Can I backup my eeprom and start from scratch with a bigger hd? How?

Any help please, I'm stuck here sad.gif

I solved it!
I copied evox to e:/apps using ftp, and run it from the broken unleashx.
When I started evox, the screen came back to normality. I managed to backup eeprom, and then installed xbmc as the main dash.
I don't know what happened that corrupted the unleashx dashboard, but everything is working fine now!

I can't wait to see xbmc running on xbox360 or ps3.
It will not be too long until somebody here will crack them.

Thanks again for such a great forum.

Any chanche you are using a PC mobo with only one ide connector?

Depends which softmod you used in the first place!

For Krayzie you need E:\Dashboard\, for Kingroach you need E:\Dash\

Make sure you bypass shadow C before taking the copy of your C partition, otherwise your new disk won't be softmodded.

i used ndure 3.1, and xboxhdm 1.9 to softmod it in the first place, hence the reply in this thread. smile.gif

how do i bypass shadow C? default.xbe, as stated in the tutorial on the first page of this thread?

You're assuming that everyone is as logical as you are.... I was just covering the option that you might not be so logical, and might have posted in the wrong place!!! smile.gif

You need E:\Dash\, thinking about it you also need E:\NKP11\ in case you've added a manual video.bin / fan.bin / led.bin. Adding E:\ndts\ is a good idea but not essential so long a you copy it across from your backup.

You bypass shadow C by running E:\ndts\default.xbe.

QUOTE(pablo9000 @ Mar 29 2006, 03:09 PM) *

I had the same exact same problem after performing this mod on the 4304 dash. This is how I fixed it:
1. obtained the 5960 dash and related files from an extracted slayers disc.
2. create a xboxhdm bootable disc using these C:\ files.
3. restore the hd by hotswapping into xboxhdm. (I had to unlock the drive using one of the error codes, the one where you unplug the dvd drive's ide cable.)
4. re-hotswap and mod the drive as detailed in the original post.
5. (optional) upgrade the hard drive as described several posts above

Ive also got a 4304 kernel and dash, can you tell me where i can find the details for part 4?

Ive currenlty got error 21 (i believe this is because the slayer disk uses version 5960 instead of the original 4304) Did you have to upgrade to 5960 using a live CD or something?

hi there, wicked tutorial, 3 years and going strong smile.gif

i have a prob, i have bios 5838. The softmod said it was successful. When I start up the box with any bootdisk or no disk it just stops on the logo screen, "after it says microsoft in white".

question is, i read that you need to use the pause track trick on my bios number, I didnt use this, but xbrowser displayed the files so does that mean in my case I dont need to use the pause trick? I was thinking that may have been my problem. other than that Im not sure what to do. My second question is, does this method install unleashed.... or do i need to install that part seperatly?

hope someone can hlp huh.gif

@Prestigex. If you can't get the original disk to boot (so you can run Config Magic or xman954's eeprom dumper to get the eeprom), then you'll need to build an eeprom reader, or fit a chip.

@palentir. If xbrowser allowed you to view the contents of the disk and copy files across then the hotswap worked, but it sounds as though you didn't copy the right files across, or your dash was an old version. Follow the method described in this post (make sure you select kernel 5838 when you build the Kingroach files), then hotswap again. You'll probably have to unplug the DVD drive to force error 12, and hotswap between the white Microsoft logo and the error.
