Rehacking Friends Xbox360 From China Options

My friend brought over an xbox 360 he got from china that was already hacked he says its Japanese. Anyways he's unable to play the newer games and wants me to upgrade the firmware. It's a Liteon (i believe) DG-16D2S-09C, jtag'd? (red wire soldered on 2 points in j2d2 on the circuit board). Do I need to removed the soldered wire and whats the cheapest way to flash the drive to play newer games, do I need to update the xbox360?

Sorry I'm a pretty big noob I had 0 problems flashing my Ben-q drive but this is a huge headache for me.

Update the console with the appropriate dashboard (if jtagged, else use official update from MS) and then re-flash using LT+3.0. Read the jungleflasher tutorial for more info.

Awesome thanks, so I don't need to buy anything, I can just run sata cable from my pc to xbox and use the xbox's power for the drive right? Also in what manner shoulder I update my xbox360 if its jtagged I can't use the official update?

My main worry is that he has games saved on the hard drive I don't know if theres some weird custom firmware I would need so he wont lose those.

What I plan on doing is updating the xbox 360 through microsoft (or is there a safer way?) and then flashing the drive to the latest key is that safe and will he lose the ability to play those files?

I know the chinese like to do everything assbackwards so I have no idea whats been installed on here so I'm a little worried sorry to bother you if its a stupid question I just dont wanna fuck this guys shit up

If it's JTAG'ed, you DO NOT want to run the official Microsoft update.

If the eFuses have been protected, the console will throw a fit at you. Ask your friend if he has his original NAND dumps. These should have been provided on a CD.

As for the drive, a Lite-On normally requires the Probe 3/PMT in order to be flashed. What version of Lite-On is it? Phats came with v7, v8a, v8b and v9.

he does not have the orignal NAND dump and I'm not sure which version it is looking at the drive it says

I was also talking to him about getting a ODDE looks pretty simple to install and wouldn't have to worry about this dumbass chinese drive, but is that safe jtagged?

to play the latest games rebuild nand with latest freeboot/dash afew different ways it can be done so without seeing it cant say anymore on that but it needs doing
after nand/dash is updated reflash drive to latest firmware
but dont just reflash drive and use game update to do the dash if its jtagged that will kill it!
best thing is if your unsure let someone who knows about jtag/rgh do it
as for odde devices jtag/rgh can play off hard drive anyway without disk so you dont need one and changing drive firmware will not affect his games on the hd

run flash360 and dump the NAND, rename it to NANDDUMP.BIN

run XELL and write down CPU key and save it in a txt file as CPUKEY.txt

download 360_multi_builder_0.82 and place the two files above in the directory my360

run the program and follow the instructions entering the console type into the dialogue box

choose the JTAG hack and NOT the glitch hack

program will spit out updflash.bin

place this onto a USB pen drive along with the xenon.elf that you will find included in 360_multi_builder_0.82

boot XELL with USB pen drive inserted

Xbox will update itself

reflash drive with LT3.0
