Unable To Unlock Wd Hdd Options

Hi

I have a 160GB western Digital HDD Model WD1600BB which i use in my xbox

I originally created it and locked it using xboxhdm 1.9.

i have since unlocked and locked it again many times using xboxhdm 1.9

However the other day i didn't have xboxhdm available so i used Config Magic to unlock it then relock it again

Now i have a problem

Config Magic wont unlock it (comes up with some error)

Xboxhdm will not unlock it either

i have since tried unlocking it with atapwd using passwords TEAMASSEMBLY & XBOXSCENE but it just wont unlock!

Can any one help me, im not too worried about the stuff on the drive, i have heard it is possible to do a low level format to remove the lock. Has anyone tried this?

You can't do this, the lock is even lower level . There are companies with software to unlock the drive but it will cost $50 (which you get back if it doesn't unlock, I think)

Since you used config magic to lock it TEAMASSEMBLY should be the master password. When you try to unlock using this password were you selecting unlock with master password?? It won't work if you did user p/w.

What error messages do config magic & xboxhdm give now?

Is it definitely locked? (don't mean to be patronising - but have you confirmed this with atapwd) could be the reason you can't unlock it.

Another password worth trying is WDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWD this is the factory master password for WD drives, but this should have been overwritten with TEAMASSEMBLY.

Xboxhdm - Doesn't give an error as such it just tries to unlock it but then show that it is still locked.

Yes i have confirmed with atapwd that it is locked.

i as well cant unlock a WD hard drive(orig. xbox HDD) i have the pw and the eeprom but xboxhdm keeps saying there is no primary master drive and that i need to restart, but its hooked up.

How about the HDD jumper setting.
Does setting it to CS or MASTER make a difference?
(or setting both, as I read in an article on MAXTOR drives)

Putting the Jumper Setting on Cable Select or Master does not make a difference in the xbox, only on PCs. The xbox needs to boot to a master drive but the HDD becomes a master drive on Cable Select.

But that doesn't mean you can set it to Slave 'cos the DVD drive assumes the slave drive.
