I am about to softmod my halo special edition version 6.1 XBOX. I am using action replay max and the origional splinter cell. Is there a really safe way to do this and can anyone tell me where i can find the best linux installer? Also, i need to be able to fully use my origional dashboard including XBOX Live. Thanks

Krayzie's Ndure installer is what you need. Install it and go back to the save and enable dual-retail multiboot. This enables you to boot to an unmodded state with the eject button.

See the link in my sig to a guide to "Usual Places" for obtaining the save.

Is there any way to do it without FTP or any PC installation. I own a mac and i am borrowing a windows, but i cannot install anything on the windows comp. And macs cannot run the programs suggested.

There should be an FTP program for Mac to replace FlashFXP, but you will need a PC to use AR.

I don't think you will be able to use XBL on a softmodded xbox. A dual-boot may work but if M$ scans your hd, you will get banned for modified files.

Is that right?

MS doesnt scan HDDs, therefore Ndure is safe. Lots of people use it.

Exactly. You need Mirc and FlashFXP to get access to Xbins, where you can get the files. Read the tutorial.

oh, well then i guess i cant get them because i have a mac. Also, i do not have a router so i have to use either my PC or my XBOX, i cant use both at the same time with internet.

I FOUND AN IRC PROGRAM. I used it and got the info i need. i try to FTP that website and 7 programs have said the server cannot be found what should i do?
