thats cuz your dvd burner set the bitsetting to dvd-rom by default, like the HP-300i

honestly i think tis all in your head, or the drive your comparing it to is messed up

ive used both 616ts and 605s, they operate exactly the same, the 616 is just uglier (and a bit louder i think) lol

how is it uglier if it's mounted correctly? mine looks perfect.

mine always sat about 2-3mm back farther than the stock drive, and of course the color is off (way off if you beige drive)

and the tray never comes out as far, maybe im just overly critical, but when looking at it from above it didnt look right

No mine won't read DVD+R's unless I set bitsetting to DVD-Rom. I'm talking about the stock sammy btw, not the 616t.

i guess i don't see how 2-3mm is ugly, but my drive tray is actually dark like the xbox's plastic.

Honestly - the thomson is my favorite drive. As long as you dont have one from launch day you're not gonna have any problems. At least that's my experience.
People are just whiney bitches that'll complain about anything (the launch thomsons did suck though - hence the reason they were refurbished for free)

Conclusion - who the fuck cares! if you have a thomson sell it and make $70 off someone else's retarded needs

Taiyo Yuden IS Ritek, essentially.  They use the same ink as the G4s. wink.gif

That's what DVDDecrypter reports when I put a Taiyo Yuden blank in the drive... (if it makes a difference, though it shouldn't, I buy the Japan-made ones and not the Taiwan-made ones).

Sorry man, you got some bad info there. There is no such thing as a Japanese produced Ritek and there is no such thing as a Taiwanese produced Taiyo Yuden. The ink is NOT the same. A quick look at the back of a Taiyo Yuden and a Ritek G04 should tell you right away that they do not use the same ink. The Ritek is a darker purple than the Taiyo Yuden. However, it should be noted that there are a number of Taiyo Yuden fakes running around right now. Certain companies are stealing manufacturer ID codes and putting them on their own discs. So chances are you have fake Taiyo Yudens. I can promise you that Ritek and Taiyo Yuden ARE NOT the same media.

my samsung reads all media
+r/rw
-r/rw
cd-r/rw

and i burn all of these at highest speeds. cd-r 48x, cd-rw 8x, dvd+r 8x smile.gif
there just compatable with the most media. its like a gforce 3 compared to a gforce 6800 ultra.
sure the gforce 3 will run the game but the ultra does it all.

Hmmn.. Well, I guess that's what I get for bargin shopping in the Akiba back-alleys. laugh.gif
I've seen T-Y packs labeled with the MFG location as Taiwan and as Japan. I guess I do have fakes...

Thanks for the confirmation! But, they work for me, so I'm not gonna worry to much.

And, hey, I never said I've seen Japanese-made Riteks... what's that about? huh.gif
