Does anyone really care, the only thing they've done worth mentioning is halo. Let's see what they do next, fail at it and then make halo 4 or a continuation of the series called something else.

Think we'll see the Halo DS that was shown off on IGN now? Maybe a sooner release date for Halo 3 PC?

I think you all are forgetting or are not noticing that HALO is just another FPS, without M$ advertising genius, this game would be treat just another FPS. BUNGIE ain't that great. Look at their track records with M4's help. muhaha.gif

are you serious...the "only thing" they have done is create the fastest-selling media product of all time in the US - surpassing even all of the Harry Potter crap...who even knows when or if that record will ever be broken...even if that is the only thing they ever do, few to none can claim that much success...

i applaud bungie for their stubbornness - their independence means a lot to them - enough to relinquish their financial ties to MS to be able to have the freedom they desire to create to their heart's desire.

i did have to chuckle at the following statement in the press release, "Microsoft is and will continue to be, a brilliant, inventive and creatively collaborative publishing partner." really, MS?

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Halo is indeed a product of great advertising, and little else.

I'm glad to see bungie go independent again. I think MS just stifled them - creativity (as all large corps do). Heres to hoping they can again make another epic game like the first halo. Not to say Halo 3 is not good, because i'm loving it right now, but it still is missing the epic, creative campaign of the first.

Didn't God of War dev company do the EXACT same thing?

See, this is more surface "Just another FPS" crap. Something is different about Halo. It plays faster, you don't feel movement limited, weapons feel like you have a handle on them. I'll tell you why Halo is not "Just another FPS". I absolutely hated FPS's when I first went into video games. Full of gore and crappy control systems. Halo opened the genre to me. And yes, I played Halo 1 after it first came out, so you can't accuse me of jumping on the Halo 2 bandwagon online because it was so popular. I played Halo religiously before I even knew it was popular. And you can take the same "Medicore graphics" and like arguements and shove them, because its not the parts, but the whole that makes Halo great. And try looking at it from an artisitic standpoint, not a tech-savy dissembly of the program. If I thought like that, I would have bought a Mac for the "Hardware" despite the fact that its programs expect me to have half the I.Q. I do have and limit me to features according to such and a PS3 cause it had such advanced hardware, but nothing worth playing on it...

Halo 1 was a revelation for FPS for me. I also hated them until i played halo 1. Halo 1 had such intuitive controls and perfect pace. It was not another frag fest FPS clone. The graphics were also amazing for the time. The best upclose textures in a game. Halo 2 on the other hand, is another story. Lovin Halo 3, though.

Wow. I doubted that this rumor would be true, but like all MS rumors, its true. Man, I really shat bricks on this one. Although I know this isnt the end for Halo, its sad to see Bungie go. On the other hand, maybe well see some new material from Bungie or even a new game that continues the Marathon/Halo story.

Good luck Bungie.

The only thing I don't understand from you guys is why do you think they will have more creativity without being owned my MS?

While making Halo 3, they were easily given a lot of time to make the game, so Microsoft didn't really push them for an early release. Only thing they did enforce on them (and even alone they would still do anyways) is make a Halo 3. Is it MS's fault Bungie takes so freaking long to make a game? They said it was their last Halo game and MS was fine with that. If anything, MS's adverts are what really drove the game and not the gameplay itself. Halo established a Firstperson icon into the console industry, but nothing in it revolutionized the way PC games were like and in fact, Halo was inspired by those creations.

I am not trying to downplay a game, but there really isn't anything too good or too bad about this. While they would loose the marketing genius of MS, they at least get majority of the profits now of any games. I believe, like others would say, they will simply create an alright game, but never at the Halo level. Whether they would create another Halo-esquie game remains unclear, but seeing as it is their baby, I wouldn't doubt it. Only thing I don't follow is why they were being held back in MS if in fact it is the other way around and MS provided them with many resources to get ahead and create their baby.

Perhaps now they may have more creativity, but honestly besides Marathon and Halo, which are all FPS, did they really create anything not related to that genre that stood out?
