On some weekends you will get to play free on XBL silver, it's like when you get HBO for a weekend to get you hooked, if you want to play games online you will have to buy XBL gold subscription, Here is what you get with the two.

Xbox Live Silver level

Create an online Gamer Profile
Access the Xbox Live Marketplace
Engage in voice and text messaging
Talk to a single friend at a time using voice chat
Receive video messages from Gold level members
Access massively multiplayer online games (additional fees may apply)

Xbox Live Gold level

Paid level of service
All the features of Silver level, and additionally:
o Play multiplayer games online
o Video chat
o Multiplayer online tournaments
o Participate in Xbox Live online programming, such as Game with Fame, Play and Win, and Prime Time activities

Can you provide a link to this information? A trusted source? I want to make sure this information about Xbox Live Silver being on some weekends is true... It's not me to trust information from other people, who just says things without any proof, maybe except for Twisted?

I was lend to believe that Xbox Live Silver was on every weekends as in this link..

Link

Although, this is not a trusted site, but it states they got the information from Team Xbox, which I believe is a trusted site.

So in that link, It states this "Free Xbox Live Weekends (S)"

So yeah, I would like a link to be corrected properly.

it says "Free Xbox Live Weekends", not "Free Xbox Live Every Weekend"...

from TeamXbox:

Periodic, free “Gold Weekends” are also planned

if you do something every day, you don't say "I do it periodically".
if you do something every weekend, you don't say "I do it on periodic weekends".

it's just another word-skewing technique by M$, just like "backwards compatible with the best selling Xbox titles" is.

fact is, I'd be happy to shell out the measly $50/year to play every day rather than once or twice a month.

Ok to all of us that have XBL now, is it like having gold? We wont need to pay more than the 50 dollars a month we pay now? I certainly hope not. If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

$50 a month??!?!? jeez you're getting ripped off!!! lol

seriously, your current subscription will carry over to Gold, so at least until you have to renew, it will be the same rate. beyond that, MS hasn't announced any pricing plans.
