firstly can i apoligise if i have posted this in the wrong forum, i am a complete noob to forums!

i bought a 360 it december 2005 and it worked great untill a month after the warrenty ran out (how convenient). im pretty sure that this happened after i downloaded an update from xbox live which i heard was a patsh for the gpu settings? before the xbox finally died on me it was spazing out for a few days, in the way that the rendered graphics part of the games wer broken up liney and a had a greenish tinge to them. im sure you know what i mean cant really describe it. so after a few days of that it fully died on me. i had one red light on the RoD and the black screen with E74 the error code being 1022( when you hold the sync button and press the open disc tray etc). so i called microsoft, god they are useless they were telling me the usual nonsense of unpugging and plugging it all back in and detaching the hard drive, all the stuff id already tried, and so they decided that it was broken, hmmmm really? they wanted 80 pounds just to look at it and said there may be additional charges which i thought was extortianate. i was only 15 at the time and decided to look for other repair alternatives. after a couple of minutes googling i found a repair centre called ideal repair centre in scotland. so i decided to call them they said they would be able to repair my xbox 4 fifty quid and theyd pik it up and drop it off for free!! i was amazed was this the way out? unfortunately as i soon discovered it was not. after waiting for around a week my xbox returned i opened it up and they had added a intercooler fan to the back of it which i thought was cool. i tryed the xbox everything seemed fine untill i tryed to play a game and lone behold all the graphics were manky aas they were b4 it died on me. after trying to restart it the dreaded e74 was back! the repair place tryed and tryed to repair it they pikd it up about 3 more times but still it wouldnt work. so i tryed to call tem to ask for a refund as they obviously couldnt fix it. but there fone was dow, so was there website and no reply from my emails, had i been scammed or had the company gone bust as they obviously coulnt repair them! at this point i was annoyed shall we say and decided to live without it. untill this month i heard about the extended warrenty but after a little investigation and a long chat with one of microsofts idiotic call reps i realised that i was not eligible as i only had 1 flashing light not 3 and that because ideal repair centre had opened my xbox and done god knows what to it microsoft wouldnt even look at it. so that night i decided to do it myself! i looked on the internet and found out about the towel trick, yup im a mug i tryed it and it worked for 1 gaming session, the n it died. again! so nxt i have tryed the rubber trik sticking erasers onto the ram chips (note: there were no rubber things on them to start with, im pretty sure there shud of been!) and agian it worked for one gaming session, im going to try the x clamp replacement mod next? i just wanted to know can anyone out there give me any advice? im sure youve enjoyed my little, well long tale of my f**d xbox, should i try the x clamp replacement or will it only work for one session again? PLEASE HELP ME

Well if the eraser/towel trick worked even for a short while then my guess is the x-clamp replacement will sort it out for good. I'm kinda surprised the repair center you sent it to didn't do this to fix it in the first place. The x-clamp replacement is a very good and reliable fix (I've fixed 2 boxes this way and the one I still own has worked fine ever since). So yeah, try one of the x-clamp tuts (I like this one HERE) and also do RBJTech's fan shroud cooling mod too (HERE). If the x-clamp replacement doesn't work out for you then just sell the xbox on ebay as faulty and get some of your money back. Faulty boxes with no cables/power brick go for about £60. I think the x-clamp replacement and some improved cooling will sort you out though. Good luck anyway!.

mine had the same exact errors (E74 and 1022) and graphical glitches as yours 01edbenne about a fortnight ago so i did Rbjtech's x-clamp replacement tutorial and the fan shroud mod and now my 360 works better then it ever has.

based on the specific type of graphical glitches you're experiencing I'm pretty sure your problem is the ANA scaler chip.

MS wont touch your console now at any price because it's been opened by someone else.

There's an outside chance that it's the GPU but I highly doubt it. Do the X-Clamp replacement and if that doesn't work find a repair person with a hot-air rework station and a junk mobo with a good ANA chip to swap yours out.

... and yeah, learn to use the return key.
