Looking to get some confirmation...I was wondering if the Sputnik360 Liteon DG16-D4S Slim DVD Unlock Probe is the only tool required to enable the write protection on Liteon DG16-D4S with MXIC boards?

You need to install an Unlock Switch on the pcb of the dvd drive.

There are two choices for Unlock switches. One is cheaper and you will need the official Sputnik probe to complete the extraction.

The second switch is a little more, but has built in features. I believe with this second switch, you can use a Homemade Probe to do the process with

Both have to be installed onto the logic board. Soldered in place.

If you need help with that area ... I could actually do that for you. I do repair work and mods. Can provide references of reliable work.

And there is a third choice. You can get the pcb dvd drive replacement made by Team Xecuter. Just Flash all your original Bin File info into the new board.

The third choice is the priciest. Around $59 - for that device

You know what ? - I double checked some stuff

You can just use the Sputnik probe to flash Liteon DG16-d4s

But you'll have to cut a trace. And patch that trace after you are done. That won't be the only time you have to do that trace thing.

Strongly recommend one of the Unlock Switches that are installed onto the pbc. The switch gives you alot of convenient flexibility for revisiting your drives firmware. Once its on - the soldering hassles are done.
