Hi there, I found an old Xbox that I would like to use as a simple server running a Linux distro. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the info here so I'll tell you what I know and ask a few questions. All help appreciated!
I have an Xbox v 1.4 I have Winbond TSOP with 32 legs (256K) That's what I know, here's what I want! I want to install a distro of Linux to use as a server - I don't want to be able to play games so I was thinking of flashing Cromwell, does this sound right? I read on this thread though that only raincoat 0.7 works on the Winbond TSOP. After that will I be able to use any version of Linux (eg Ubuntu) or only the ones shown here http://sourceforge.net/projects/xbox-linux/files/ Can someone please point me to the correct step-by-step tutorial I should be following? Thank you! |

You should use Cromwell if you wish to turn the xbox into a pure linux only machine. I've found Gentoox to have the most recent and best support, but it lacks a full native installation. Fortunately that can be resolved by following the steps posted here: http://forums.shallax.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3092
