I'm trying to install the SPice adapter on my 1.6, but the holes where I'm supposed to place the gold pins, except for the curved one, seemed to be filled so that I can't place the pins all the way through (unlike the pictures in this guide). Anyway to get them through?

Try gently scraping the hole with an xacto knife to remove any board laquer/resin that may be covering it and expose the bare copper.

Alright, got the copper exposed but the pins still can't go through (they're longer then everything else, so if they dont go through I can't get the thing seated). Is it okay to cut the pogo pins just long enough so that they touch the copper?

No, you need them in the holes to ensure a solid connection.. Try spinning the knife's tip in the hole to try and clear it...

Just curious. If MS has coat the holes with a laquer of some sort, shouldn't there be some kind of solvent that will dissolve it without damaging the board?

use a fiber glass pen. this will remove all the laquer but not damage the copper

sleeping.gif

this is bullshit.. its not a 1.7 just because the holes are coverd.. I came across a 1.4/1.5 mobo that had the "d0" and other holes small like the "d0" covered in the green thing... I just got a nife and scraped them and my XBIT worked FINE on it..

so how can if be a 1.7 just because the holes are covered.. and when was the MFG DATE of this mobo? (if its really a 1.7)

I really think that people should just learn how to solder, I mean, by the time you pay for the solderless adaptor you could have bought a cheap soldeiring iron and had the thing installed. Really, If you cant solder, should you even be opening your Xbox?

Agreed. There really was no reason, and it isn't like it's an issue related to an Xodus product. It's just part of the mod chip war, but you're right, using stuff like flash rom size, software quality, release date, ..., are at least pertanant.
