Sounds like a Xecuter 2.6CE installed... the bios switch is exactly that... to switch between 2 bios' installed in the chip (if there are more than one). Different bios may be setup to load different dashboards, or operatings system like Linux or the flashbios to flash the chip.
Protect switch is so you can't flash the chip by accident. If and when you decide to flash the chip set this switch to off... a little red LED should light up warning you the flash banks are unprotected. The on/ off is to turn the chip off... sounds like whoever installed the chip was a hack and didn't finish the job. When you turn the chip off it should boot the normal MS bios and boot as a regular nonmodded Xbox. Usefull if you wish t play on live, as playing on live with the modchip on wil get you banned. |

sounds like you have an xecuter chip.
the first switch is modchip boot on/off. this controls weather your xbox boots from the retail bios, or from the hacked bios on your chip. it should boot in the off position aswell. the second switch protects the chip from being able to be flashed incase you accidently flash it. On is to the left. The third switch is to control what bios bank you select. I am assuming you most probably have a 3rd gen xecuter which holds 2x 512kb bios'. You can basically store more than one bios on the chip, and the switch controls which bios to boot. For example, you might want the hacked xecuter bios on one bank, and a recovery flashbios on the other bank. |

i have a bigger harddrive installed would that be the reason why my box does not load with the chip switched off also when i switch the bank between 1 and 2 there is no differance if i set up a differant bios in one of the switches what benifits would i get i have evo x as my dash at the moment but ava launch is also installed inside of that |

I have a question on this one since it was bought up.
The external switch on the Xecuter 3 CE. I have the chip installed by solder method with the LPC rebuild, etc, yada yada. The Switch. What a pain in the butt. lol. Seriously though, I have Evox installed and when I turn on the screen I boot into the X3 Config screen and have option to reset to dash to go to Evox. But when I am in Evox or the X3 Config and go to Boot to MSDASH it won't. Is this because of a setting on the external switch? I currently have it set to off, off, off, off, on because my chip is flashed. Where would the MSDASH settings be and what would the settings on the external switch be to boot into MSDASH? In basic words, this switch drives me nutts trying to figure it out. lol. Thanks, Flandrel This post has been edited by Flandrel: Feb 19 2006, 05:20 PM |

I have a question on this one since it was bought up. Two different switches... should be two different topics. Don't piggyback onto others' questions. cHRISBATSKI... having a larger drive makes no difference to the operation of the switches. If you saying that it boots the same way whether the switch bank is in #1 or #2 then it sounds like the person who flashed your chip made a 1meg bios. The X2.6 chip has two 512k banks for a bios... most of the time a flashbios is installed on one of the banks. This allows you to flash the other bank with the bios of your choice for the first time. While leaving the flashbios intact for future flashing or in case you mess up. You can also flash this chip with a programmer hooked to a pc's parallel port. Doing this you can flash both banks at once by just creating a 1meg bios... which is this case the installer took the same bios and added it to itself and then overwrote both banks. So no matter what position the switch is in you get the same bios. Not a big deal. Leave it alone it works... flashing when you don't know what your doing can be big trouble down the road.
