I'm going to be typing up some tutorials soon for a mod convention I'm going to and I need a little more technical info about the XBox partitions. The following questions, to the best of my knowledge, are not covered in any tuts I've read.
1) When installing EvoX with the SID4.0 installer + Splinter Cell exploit, does ANY info get copied to any of the other partitions besides E:? I've read the XYZ is only cash drives use for in game play. However, do they also hold any info about the installation of the soft mod. 2) Relating to 1) after the mod is installed does any information get cached somewhere (IE: logs, etc) to any of the XYZ partitions or elsewhere? 3) Let's say that you soft mod a factory sealed XBox with the EvoX dashboard. You configure everything as needed, installed Media Center, etc. Then the FIRST think you do after that is copy the C: and the E: drive to your PC hard drive. Then the worst happens and something seriously screws up the dashboard but your able to be back to the installer and get things working again. Would deleting the C: and E: and re-coping the backup C: and E: to the XBox form your PC restore a prefect 1:1 copy? This convention is this weekend where I'll be presenting and have a little booth so I'd like to have the material typed up by then. |

1) Don't use SID 4.0, it is filled with problems. Use Krayzies NDURE installer 1.1. The majority of a softmod is done on the c: partition. The e: usually only stores the dashboard. X,Y,Z are for in game cache, correct (no softmod info on them).
2) There is a cache in the e: drive as well. 3) The worst that can happen is you delete all the hacked files and stock files. You would then have to use your PC to rebuild the hard drive using the c and e backup you created (you could also install a chip). You should get a perfect copy if you do that unless your softmod has a shadow c: in which case you c: drive will not show the real c: contents (most likely just a stock C: drive files). Also, 'unlocking' the hard drive when your xbox is softmodded is a bad thing. This post has been edited by BigSteel: Sep 14 2006, 10:23 PM |

Also, 'unlocking' the hard drive when your xbox is softmodded is a bad thing. Very bad indeed. Unless you have a backup of the eeprom. Or you could just get a chip. Also, in regards the X, Y and Z drives, they are cache only and cannot be used to permanently store anything as they regularly get cleared(formatted?) What types of problems come up with the SID4.0 installer?
