I have a Hitachi v47 drive and it cant read crap so i figured i would pickup a replacement drive.
I have used ms25/28 drives and they both seem to work well but haven't seen any of the other drives.
I was wondering what i should get to replace it, which drives out there will give me the best results?

Have you tried tweeking the laser or the rubberband trick, I think you'll be surprised how easy it is and how well it works...

I have tweaked the laser a couple times but it didnt really help. What is the rubberband trick?

It involves using a rubberband or a sticky pad in the case of Hitachi, it stops the laser going too far into the centre of the disk and missing the burned area, which can make the drive appear empty.....

I would say samsung.
My benq drive takes on average 5-20 second longer on loading. And games that stream the textures in like Mass Effect have a lot more texture pop up. Also, table tennis seems bugged, takes about 2 minutes to load a table. Verbatim disks of course. It seems like a firmware bug, but who knows what it will be fixed?

It does seem quieter though, and the tray hasn't started to stick like on my samsung.

BenQ drives are the best.

Samsung are all i have been using using because they are relatively cheap. BenQ drives usually run $15-$20 more. The only problem with samsungs are the tray likes to get stuck after alot of use, and the open tray error. Both of these can be fixed in a matter of minutes.

BenQ is better, and a samsing MS25 is a close second, hitachis are garbage.
