is it somehow emulated or can the hardware be fully used???

i mean, thats a mean machine! you could run TIger or windows or whatever through a linux system!

thats a very cheap high-end PC then!

I heard that you can install any PPC version of Linux on there. So I wouldnt be surprised if in the future you could also install Free BSD, Darwin, Solaris, or even Mac OS X

Hopefully it won't be long before we somehow gain access to the GPU...then we can really start to have fun with linux biggrin.gif

Its severely crippled. Only having access to 256 mb of ram is downright terrible, but not having access to the GPU of the PS3 basically makes this ability useless. I hope some hack comes along that'll grant access to the GPU, otherwise this nifty trick is going to be only good for absolutely nothing.

As far as i know, the OS sees about 200 megs of ram out of the 256 that the console has. the rest of the memory seems to be tied up by the XMB i think...And yes, access to the GPU is limited

thats cool, is access to the graphics good enough to play movies and stuff over shares? kuz alot of people would just care about that.........

so i can set it up to run my .torrent programs and put the ps3 device as a share on a network so if i was on my comp i could access its hdd and all the open source programs i downloaded off bittorrent too.

... or whatever other practical uses of a linux box, it can be done.

OK, Linux booted. But I didn't see it run any apps, I wanted to see it run a web browser and at least play a movie or video file. That would have been interesting.

tbh, all i want is to use it as a video encoder, if they could get those spes running ffmpeg in parallel, youd have lightning fast encodes!

Someone got Mame to run on the PS3 running linux. However, most games didn't work for some reason, and the games that did work you could not play at all. What a wonderful addition!

lol, nice you registered to come in here and make crap posts. Go back to the 360 section with your real user name and quit trolling here.

I want Linux for MythTV. Emulators are great for a couple minutes or show to your friends, but the novelty quickly wears off.
