i have a soft modded xbox (used krazies latest ndure) i have a stock hd and want to get a bigger one. i read all about xboxhdm and it looks like alot of work. i looked at the chipped ways and it all consists of just making a boot disc basically. couldnt i do that with a softmod ( i have latest evox ) there has to be aneasier way than that. i went to slayers site to see if i could try that but i cant find the download only the hash decrypter. just curios if there were any other ways. thanks. also in the usual places i found a autoinstaller call evox new hd 1.4 or something would that be easiest it looked simple if it would work

You can't do it with a softmod for the following reasons:

1) The new HD is unlocked and the retail BIOS will not go anywhere with an unlocked HD.
2) You can't boot unsigned media under a retail BIOS.

With a softmod your BIOS is modified temporarily after startup, and these changes are lost on reboot as they are only in memory.

XboxHDM is the only way.

i have used xhdm and it is not difficult at all, you just have to put your C and E partitions on the disc with your eeprom and boot in your PC, it has alot of documentation and instructions with is, as well as easy to follow onscreen instructions once you boot the disc

ya what lordvader said. xboxhdm is so easy, the only part that might even take some technical skills is taking the cover off your comp and sticking in the xbox HD (not really though) biggrin.gif

I only have a softmod, i upgraded my hard drive...... All i did was backup my C and EEprom sent to the computer and then made an iso of xbox hdm then i burnt a cd popped it in, tweaked some settings, and finaly plugged in a hard drive, its not that hard to do. Some tutorials make it look hard, just give it a shot.

Well i can't really explain how to open your pc, but i will give you this pointer: Once you know how to open your pc, you will need to set the blank HD's Jumper to master. Theres a realy good tutorial for HDM let me go find it real fast for you, it comes with screenshots and how to change your computer to boot by cd!

(edit) here is the link: http://www.techfreaks.org/articles/modxbox2.shtml

I would only make a backup of your C and EEprom, a backup of the E drive is not crutial, i just re installed the softmod it was no big deal, but the advantage was it took less time, and sometimes my iso was too big cause of a bulky E drive.....

once you have the linux.iso burned, leave the disk in the drive, turn off your comp, unhook your comp hd and hook up your box hd to the comp, i just take the jumper block out completely, and then boot your comp, it should boot to xboxhdm.
