I've cut a hole where the jewel used to be out and moved a few of the internals around to make space for an 80mm fan. Should I have it so the fan is sucking the cold air in (leaving the back fan as is) or blowing the hot air out (and reversing the back fan to suck cold air in)?

Since i rarely use the DVD drive I took it out and ran the cables for the dvd(power and data) coming out the back, so I can still attach it when need be.
I moved the hard drive onto the DVD mounting bracket and cut the right hand section of the DVD bracket to clear space diriectly above the heatsinks. I'm expecting the fan to arrive monday, so i'll take pics once i've got it all in. I'll be surprised if someone hasn't already done this.

Seems like a pretty good idea to me, but you will want it to suck air in, that way the stock fan will blow out all the extra air coming in. You should get pretty good temps with that

Yeh i'm gonna make it a quiet case, so my temps will probably still be ~45'S. I'll be running the back fan at about 20% and i'm going to mount a spire whisper rock fan with a 7V mod so i'm hoping it will be pretty quiet *crosses fingers*
And I've got a bit of vacuum cleaner filter left, i might try out in front of the fan

^^^^^If all fans are exhaust then how do you get the kool air in ?^^^^^^
its not a matter of gettting cool air in..it is a matter of getting hot air out..if you take away hot what is left? cold. therefore taking out the hot air with exhaust would only leave cool air...

Actualy you would create a vacume wich is less efficiant then moving air (curulation). Just like with everything sucking and blowing at the same time is more efficiant then just sucking or just blowing.

the fans would have to be sucking from aound the same spot like out the back, its called negative pressure, it sucks out all the hot air, and vents placed in certain areas draw cool air over the components. its how i cool my comp case. i think its alot quieter, and i it cools my equipment really well.
