Peter Moore's a pretty cool guy.
M$ is very lucky to have this guy in their team, he's one of the main reasons why M$ was able to get much more Japanese support this time around.

He complimented Nintendo's new controller.
But I don't like the fact how many NintendNutts are taking this as mockery.
I think Moore understands that a solid Revolution performance in Japan only weakens Sony, and that is always a good thing in the eyes of M$

i didnt know anyone took that as mockery. other then that i agree with you all the way. peter did wonders when he took over at sega and kept the company together when they went through their transition between hardware to 3rd party. i knew good things were to come when MS signed him up and im sure they did too.

between j allard, robbie bach, and peter moore i honestly dont see a team this strong in the gaming industry. thats not biased at all, just them compared to kenny k., that european guy who showcased the ps3 tech demos, and redgy from nintendo (mr. "were kickin ass and taking names") i see more passion and love for the industry from any one of MS's three muskiteers have a way to get you excited without even showing you the goods.

QUOTE(Peter Moore @ Part 2)
First of all, I want to give kudos for Nintendo, for its attempt at innovation with the new controller...

That's a snub. Probably not intentional, but a snub nonetheless.

It's akin to awarding the worst player on the Little League team a "Most Improved" award, and that's possibly how he sees it.

He's basically saying that Nintendo gave innovation a nice try, but failed. (I'll let the market decide that, how about you? jester.gif )

ok maybe your taking it the wrong way. it is an attempt right now because it hasnt been proven to be a success. if developers warm up to the idea and take advantage of any possibilities it offers that are beyond possible on todays standard controller then yeah it will be more then an attempt. the same could be said with MS with the xbox, that they made an attempt in the console business. if that is all that he has said in the interview then i can see your point, but he also praises nintendo for seeing their dream of expanding the gaming industry. i havent seen any headline pointing out this remark as mockery or a snub, only that he is praising nintendo's guts to try new things.

Having a hard drive for games saves and music was a unique feature of the Xbox, however core package seems to be a complete U-turn on this. Whilst having a lower price-point may prove an effective strategy what was the reasoning behind forcing core owners to purchase a memory card rather than including it with the console?

The interesting thing is, put Xbox aside every console requires you to buy a memory unit if you want to save games. It’s like we have invented fire here by making you go out and while I understood the questions I didn’t understand the angst everybody seemed to have over the whole thing. It really is in Europe in particular we felt that 299 Euros was a very important price point, remember we shipped at 479 Euros a number of years ago with the Xbox now you have a choice at 299 and if you want to buy a memory unit then that’s at say 340 but that’s your choice. You would be amazed at how many people don’t save games. You guys are hardcore gamers (smiles) you’d be amazed at how many people don’t think they need to save the game. But if you do go and buy a memory unit or you want a better experience then go buy a hard drive. Hard Drive will be right there and if you feel that big about it then say to yourself all the things I know I can do is it worth 399 Euros or is it worth £279 or $399; everybody says yes, when you lay it out and understand it they all say “yes”. Our goal is to provide choice, in particular we need to be more successful in Europe and providing an option to buy in at 299 at launch and of course over a period of time that price continues to go down is something we felt was important. In the early going a huge majority are going to buy the premium package. The core system is there for people who want that opportunity. Giving people more choice always felt like a plus to me and not a negative but I guess no good deed goes unpunished (smiles).

Not to get this completely off-topic onto the Revolution controller, but there are basically 3 viewpoints: A, that it's the best thing to happen to gaming since Pong; B, that Nintendo, as a company, is insane; and C, we don't know enough about the hardware or developer support at this time to make a decision.

Peter Moore, whether by his own volition or simply his repitition of the company line, has chosen viewpoint B. However (unlike certain Sony reps rolleyes.gif ), he realizes that knocking Nintendo's route would be considered bad form by many, especially in a market MS desperately wants to penetrate.

If Moore had been truly impressed by the controller, his statement would have been different. How, I'm not sure. But as it stands, I can see why many readers would get the impression that he was insulting Nintendo.

Edit: not enough sleeeeeeep... sleeping.gif

No matter how you're gonna gauge it - we said at E3, we want a billion consumers touched in this next generation by our industry. That was an industry message. Certainly, we can see Nintendo rallying to that cry and reiterating what Robbie said on May 16th; I heard the same words come from Iwata-san of Nintendo yesterday. Their attempt, of course, is to make gaming a little bit more simple, a little bit more approachable.

I've said this in a couple of forums and most people say it won't happen. I bet they will allow us to install games on the harddrive, eliminating the 'dreaded' disc swapping some fear. 20gb is plenty for now, and as games get bigger you can upgrade to a 40,60,80,100,etc GB drive. It will be faster than any optical media on the market. If you don't have a harddrive, you have to swap DVDs. It would probably be a bit of a pain for the devs to code for installed on HD vs running off of DVD, but the increase in speed should be worth it.

Of course he has a beta unit so it is probably 'hacked' so it can run beta code from a harddrive and not a DVD.
