Okay Okay i know you guys dont like answering these daft questions and I would normally sort it out myself im not stupid!....However smile.gif I have been pulling my hair out trying to get my PC to FTP to my Xbox!
This is what happened about 3 or 4 months ago i setup a network to my Xbox following the good tutourials on this site no problems first time bang Im in! then just recently I reinstalled XP onto a new system I jyust built (With SP1) and now i cannot get it to connect I got my xbox IP as Static 192.168.02 Default gateway is 192.168.02 Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0
PC has ADSL so my internet IP is Dynamic but in the properties for my nic I set it to "Use the Following IP" and then gave it 192.168.01 Default Gateway 192.168.01 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 I then set up a site in site manaager using FXP called it xbox username xbox password xbox wich is set up the same in EvoX then i tried to connect and get
Connecting to XBOX #1
Connection failed (Connection timed out)
Delaying for 120 seconds before reconnect attempt #2
Connection failed (Connection timed out) all the time
Oh and BTW yes i did check off completely "Passive Mode" in FXP so if anyone could shed any light on this subject it would be much appreciated thanks
Oh and one more thing my new system i built came with a 3com Lan card on board the mobo so i thought well last time i was using my realtek lan card so i even disabled the 3Com in my BIOS and reinstalled the realtek card and still i have same problem huh.gif

Have you tried obtain IP automatically? That's how mine's set up. Make sure it's port 21 too. That had gotten me before.

2 things:
1. make sure the xp firewall software is turned off. some sp1 installations i've seen have that checked by default
2. NEVER set your gateway the same as your IP.
Do something like this
xbox ip: 192.168.0.2 gateway 192.168.0.1
pc ip: 192.168.0.3 gateway 192.168.0.1

now neither of them will actually use that gateway address so its ok if it doesn't exist.

Does the network device you're plugging your Xbox into (hub, switch, PC NIC) show link lights? If so, what dashboard are you using? Make sure FTP is enabled in the dashboard and the name/password fields match what you're trying to use.

Ip and gateway should be different as someone else noted above.

yes, again please make sure your ip and gateway are different. You couldn't have already known it since when you posted above they were the same. and if you ping the ip of your xbox what happens?

Ok first of all, do you have XBMP on your xbox? If you do, you might want to try booting from an EvoX dash from the dvd drive and try to see if that works with FTP. If not then you probably have a physical connection problem. I dont want to walk you through that because you probably tried everything and its nothing is working. IF YOU CAN FTP over to you xbox using the Evox boot disk, then the problem is probably on your xbox and the old dash you loaded. XBMP has this file called system.bin in the directory "E:TDATAface007" and if you used XBMP as your dash, then you will need to delete that file and restart. If that doesn't work or if you do not even use XBMP, then i would recommend booting from the disk and replacing your dashboard. Thats all I could think of that was not in the instructions the other people gave you. Peace, happy moddin' smile.gif

Hey this same thing happened to me so what i did was copy files on a disc with boxplorer as default.xbe for awhile until i noticed something. My PC's Local Area Connection's settings were wrong. Yu dont have to mess with the NIC's settings just this Local Area Connection.
1) Goto Control panel
2) Open Network Connections
3) Right Click on Local Area Connection
4) Highlite Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
5) Click On Properties
6) Change the Settings to match your network settings
7) Press OK and exit.

then FTP'ing worked well for me

unsure.gif also try going to START, then RUN, then ping you xbox from there on the command prompt line by typing, 'PING (whatever your IP number is that you assign your XBOX from EVOX settings). If you can ping your XBOX from there, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to connect. carefully go back through your evox settings. Is your NETWORK setting OPEN uhh.gif
