Hi,

I'm a newb here. I softmodded my original xbox about 5 months ago. Followed advice on forums, and everything went well.

Used the mechassault expolit, and loaded a single-boot UnleashX dashboard. Added a bunch of emulators, xbmc, etc. without difficulty.

Earlier today, I was playing Sniper Elite. Friend came by, and hit the xbox live option. It brought me back to ms dashboard, and started "updating" for xbox live. I pulled the ethernet cable before it finished, but I still got the error 21.

My console now boots into original ms dashboard. Anytime I hit the live button, i get a error 21. I have tried to repeat the exploit using mechassault and the game save, but after selecting "run linux" the game just reboots. Never enters the UnleashX dash.

I have deleted and resinstalled the game save and SID 5.1 on the hard drive via the ms dash and have same problem.

Any suggestions? I have no ftp access at the point.

Try and get krazies ndure installer it can be found on #xbins that should let you resoftmod the xbox

What colour is your LED?

Have you tried booting Frosty's Rescue disc, or Slayers?

The LED is green now. If I hit the xbox live in the ms dash, the error 21 screen comes up and it flashes red and green. If I try the game exploit, the LED does change to orange, but mechassault just reboots. The LED stays orange, though.

If I eject mechassault, the LED returns to green, and the MS dash loads...

I haven't tried either of the discs; I'll look for them. I did try to place an AID installer disc in the drive, but, as suspected, it was not recognized by the MS Dash.

Going to try Krayzies ndure, but even the readme file states that it may not work if there are files from previous exploits still on the drive...

No go on Frosty's Rescue Disk. Isn't recognized. Apparently, the game completely restored my MS Dash. Network settings, however, gives error 21...

So Krayzie's Ndure restored my ftp access. Best option?

1) Go ahead with re-install?
2) Wipe drive and restore retail MS Dash, and then do it all over??
3) Would like to save my emulators and such first...

I'd always use FTP to restore C to retail using a clean 5960 dash, then run Krayzie's installer - that way you know what's on there.

Well it's done. What a pain in the a**!

Thanks all for your help. Successfully used Krayzie's Ndure installer to access the hard drive via ftp. Deleted everything, reinstalled the retail MS Dash, then ran the exploit again. The added all of my files back.

Was another fun re-learning experience.
