can't find anything on the net except for 1)shell out lots of dough to pay for a drive fixing company to do it for me, or 2)use the drive as a paperweight cause it's gone...

anybody here have any experience in fixing these drives? It's a Western Digital 250GB (WD2500LB) that I got off of ebay. I was gonna put it in my xbox but I can't write the partition table because it's already locked. From what I understand just reading around, the ATA security specification is not able to be bypassed except for one guy who said that I could wipe the drive completely, which wouldn't matter because there's nothing on it anyways. However, I do not know if this would work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Justin Hodorek

ok this MIGHT work, but then again....
Get AVALAUNCH Dashboard on a HDD you can boot to with a modchip (assuming you are chipped)
Launch the dash and then hotswap to the WesternDigital
Theres an option on the Dashboard that lets you unlock most to all HDD's I know of.
If it works, then you now have unlocked HDD ready for re-partitioning... if not, well wipe it then.

You could only unlock it with that method if the HDD had been locked by your Xbox.

You could try reflashing the drive with its original firmware, as that works on one of the stock Xbox HDDs, but I'm not sure that works on many disks. I'd just advise returning it to the seller, if they didn't mention in the auction that it was locked you should have a good case to get a refund or replacement.
