Will a SATA HD work in the xbox? I'm looking to upgrade from my WD 120 SE, lookin into this one for $100:

No. The xboes uses a standard P-ata IDE-controller.

You can get an adaptor but there are no performance benefits and I dont think you can lock the SATA drive.

Well, then he would need two adaptors, right? Since the WD probably does'nt use 4-pin molex.

I think you will foind the adaptors are supplied with both power and ide convertors or they wouldnt be much use.

Most SATA drives have native support for both 4pin molex and the 5pin (or however many pins) SATA connector. They only have one connector the SATA though. There's really no point in it though.. IDE (PATA) drives are cheaper and are lockable and.. well.. they're old school more or less. I like em.

I get the distinct feeling you dont believe me, I have never used one as I consider them pointless, as pointed out the Pata are generally cheaper.

A google search found THIS as well as others.

First link was SATA controller to IDE not IDE to SATA

Fry's has the 300G Seagate for $100 after $50 rebate right now...picked one up this weekend (not friday).

Damn....$15 cheaper now, and $5 cheaper than TigerDirect.
