ok im going to tell you how to add switches to the 360 controller

Were to get switchs

mouser.com

Use customer support if you dont know what switch you need.

Step 1 controller dissasemble

TOOLS NEEDED:
T8 bit/screwdriver
T8 Security bit/screwdriver (for wireless controller)

First take your screwdriver/bit and poke out/peel the serial code (the hole in the middle of it)

Next unscrew all the holes and pry open controller (just use your hands)

Now you will see a motherboard just take it off and you will see the front plate with all the buttons

Take all those out and you will have the two buttons (right, left) They look like this
IPB Image

Step 2 Finding were you want the switch

TOOLS NEEDED:
Your two own hands

Put Everything pack together without the motherboard and the following buttons: A,B,X,Y-Back, Start

So you basiscly your just have the controller shell. So look at the controller shell and find were the switch would bestly go. When you do make shure the switch fits with the motherboard it.

Step 3 Drilling hole for switch

TOOLS NEEDED:
Dremel tool (optional)
Drill
Razor blade (optional)
Epoxy (optional

Ok this parts hard if you has a small switch. If you do a dremel tool/screw driver/ and razer blade Its easy. Now look at each and see what you have button/ slide switch Scroll down and find What one you have

INSTALLING BUTTON SWITCH or mounting switch:
Ok if you have a button switch your in luck! its really easy to install.

Now theirs two types of mounting a button. First is if its got mounting nuts that will mean you dont have to epoxy anything! yeaaaaaa!!!!!
Ok so Now the otherway is if you dont have that meaning you have to epoxy. booooooo!!!!! So hopfully your buttons round and that is a good thing.

Installing round button: Ok so take your button and drill and find one exactly EXACTLY! the same size were your mounting on your button
When you have that take your drill and drill the hole were you want your button (remember make sure the button doest hit the motherboard when you install it and close it
So now if your is a mounting just unscrew the nut, put the button through the hole and screw it back on. Make sure it tight.

Installing square button or slide switch:

Take you Button/Slide switch and get your drill with the smallest drill bit (like 1/32) And drill your hole make sure the hole is right your you switch
Now move the drill around to kind of sculpt the hole (for the odd shape) To tune it up so it looks nice take your Dremel and or razor blade and for dremel use an extremly small sander to smooth it out and take your razor blade and cut the hole out (edges) WARNING DO ON CRUMMY TABLE AND KEEP ANDS AWAY RAZOR BLADES ARE SHARP ENOUGH TO RIP YOUR FINGER RIGHT OF BONE TO. IF its a mounting switch go up and use (INSTALLING BUTTON SWITCH or mounting switch:)

If its not a mounting switch once you have your hole clean and cut take your epoxy and mix it Hole your switch in the hole and epoxy it WARNING: DO NOT GET EPOXY ON THE TERMINALS ( PINS STICKING OUT )
Once Thats done hold switch in place untill epoxy dries (i would use 5 minute epoxy instead of waiting an hour. Here advice to TURN THE TV ON!!! lol

SOLDERING SWITCH IN

TOOLS NEEDED:
Solder gun
Solder
Extra wire (optional)

CONGRATES You made it this far! Heat up your solder gun And take your motherboard, And controller case with switch. Now find the light you want to turn On/Off Find the cords (p/n) and pick positive (red ushaully) CUT IT IN ! really i mean cut it then strip it (you can you solder fun to melt off plastic) Both end then take the extra wire and solder it to the wire you gut in half both ends. Make shure it lond enough to reach the switch. strip the two ends of the extra wire. Then solder one to one of the pins on the switch and the same with the other (other pin though) Now it connected close the controller. Pray to god it fits. Once all together turn your 360 on/ plug your switch in/ try it out. Again pray to god this works.

PLZ THANK OR POST IF THIS HELPED:D

ALL CREDIT GOES TO ME (I MADE TUTORIAL)

Mouser isn't going to have a clue what switch you need to use, so asking their customer support that question is only going to make ya look like an idiot. Also some pics of what needs to be done really help make a tutorial a tutorial, that or some really descriptive paragraphs, of which there are neither in here.

Some of the better switches to use from Mouser for controller mods are either the G22AP (Toggle $5 a shot)..

..or the AYZ0202AGRL (Slide, $1)..

These are also DPDT switches and can be used for a lot more than turning some LEDs on/off as well.

Using epoxy to mount the things isn't the best way either. If the switch were to ever go bad removing it's a real PITA, use a Hi-Temp hot glue instead. It'll hold them in there just fine and unless you leave the controller in a car with the windows rolled up in the middle of summer the stuff isn't going to melt and, if need be, it's much easier to remove to replace the switch than any epoxy would be.

not a bad effort at a tut...but imo ,you need to work on more detail and as RDC mentioned, more pics of each stage would be good wink.gif
