Getting closer to gettting the Mandrake running on my Xbox.

When I use the installation CD, I come to the "Type install8/install" to install Mandrake screen.

But my Logitech USB Keyboard, and Logitech USB mouse dont work.

When I try disconnecting them, and reconnect, I get this error:

USB device not accepting new address=3 (error=-110)

USB device not accepting new address=4 (error=-110)

Address (3-4-5-6-....) varies, if i disconnect, and reconnect, it counts up.

I am pretty sure the soldering is made correctly. Cut the orig slots off, and soldered new USB cables on the wires from the little board mounted in the Motherboard (Yes, I wish myself a digital camera)

I haven't connected any controllers, have heard that could cause the problem.

You better check your soldering one more time cause it seems that one of the points are either misplaced or are making bad contact. I had some problems getting my keyboard and mouse working until I installed usbports into my controller.

I also tried making a cable 3-4 times and Im good with soldering. The only way I was able to make it work was installing a USB port into the fron of my xbox.

Try using a breakaway controler cable (1footer) and a usb plug. Cut cable and attach usb plug. Then you just use any of the controller ports. Works good. I can have controllers plugged in an it has not problems.

Well, sounds very good (All the ideas)

BUT.... here in Denmark, it is allmost impossible to get breakaway cables.

The only thing I can do, is to buy a controller, and cut off the cable to use that.

But trust me, I will do, if thats the only option.

I wait one more day, to see if anyone else solved the prob without breakaway cables, then I buy & split apart a new controller...

Sodering wasn't the hard part, cutting through the case was. I killed two dremel tips cutting out my USB ports.

Installing them in the back works great!

Succes....

After messing a whole lot with it again today, I finally got it working.

First I cut a controller cable (guess what my neighbour, which plays a lot on it, said....)

Tried soldering it like an extension cable

Same error sad.gif

Tried soldering the usb "port" to the backside of the print in which the Xbox USB cables is mounted

Same error mad.gif

Got mad..... grr.gif

Cut the USB cable on the keyboard, and soldered it directly to the little white plastic thingy, which goes into the print in which the Xbox USB wires are connected.

IT WORKED... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

So my guess is the cable was too long....

So finally - Mandrake is running on my Xbox...

COOL.. cool.gif

Thx for the help all of you (And hope this message will help others to get it working)

Regards

Smiley_dk (Which still needs to get his mouse to work)
