Hi,

not sure what to get, I have flashed my drive in the past but would much rather load off HDD.

I love homebrew but the scene seems kinda slow even since the rgh was announced.

How hard is it to set up the rgh once the chip is installed?

thanks!

put it this way its not noob friendly so far ive had 5 boxes brought to me that have been shafted with rgh!
if you want rgh get it fitted unless you really know what your doing!
as for drive emulators its cheaper to get it glitched and get full functionallity the makers of these emu's keep dangling the live carrot at users so we will buy them but since NO MODS ARE LIVE SAFE just glitch it!
and if live is your thing leave it stock sorry if that sounds harsh just the way it is

Been wondering this aswell because I'm split between RGH'ing my slim or buying the xk3y. RGH is cheaper comes to about $75, where the xk3y is $105. Xbox Live is the only thing that's stopping me from either, so with RGH can you play backed-up .iso's on Live?

Neither is recommended for live. The RGH hack would most likely get you banned first. But the xkey would most likely get you banned, just a bit slower. If you want live, use c4eva's LT+.

You could try the dual nand approach, but it's not guaranteed safe either.

Whoa, you're just asking for automatic BAN by taking an RGH on Live. Like mouseym and sinclairuser mentioned, not a good idea.

In any circumstance, no mod is ever safe for Live. Never has never will be.

RGH service + Coolrunner = $45 - $50

ODD Emulator = $100 - $120

That being said, if you have a phat X360, I'd actually get an ODD because your system will go tits up one day and you can just move the emulator hardware to another box.

I've been in the RGH vs ODD battle myself. RGH is obviously cheaper; but that aside - Wasabi does look pretty neat, comfortable & easy for a mere $30 odd more.

I don't use my phat 360 online at all; it is 100% Offline only! I have a different 100% Online Stock Slim - untouched and that's how I plan to keep it. So the RGH/ODD consideration is for my 100% Offline Phat.

I do agree with your last comment quite a bit. My phat is a few years old. I haven't had any trouble yet but it's bound to happen one of these days. If I RGH it - it's over. If I ODD it - like you said - I can snap it out & hook it up to another box.

I do have a question regarding the ODD ... I've gone through Wasabi's PDF guide and the hardware installation seems a breeze. However, is there any Software installation/setup also in play which requires fiddling with original drive key & what not?? And do you also have to constantly flash to the latest iXtreme fw on your disc?

Secondly, as far as backups go -- do I just place my backup ISO on the hard drive or do I have to modify the backup ISO into something else (Like with jTag you'd have to make a GOD Image out of it back in the day).

Still not sure whether I should go for RGH or ODD.

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies, I've decided to go via the RGH route because someone in my area is doing them for very very cheap, almost half as much as for an ODD.

Can someone point me to some tutorials for the software side of the RGH, ie after the hack is completed fully.. how to install stuff, play games, emulators etc? All tutorials I can find are about hardware and the NAND flashing.

Thanks again!!

If you have a slim RGH, the port to XBL seems to be blocked anyway. At least that's the way it is with mine.

Rgh Vs Wasabi Vs X360key?

My choice is neither of them. Cos -

RGH - still too complex to understand and maintain for most folks like me

wasabi - placed order but always delayed, not popular, impossible to find

xkey, canceled order after hearing of random reset problem, still no solution

Finally decided to just get good old LT+ installed. Playing from disc is idiot proof and still playable on live.

Xk3y works great and no reset issues from anyone I've talk to on forums or in person. The reports of reset are far and few and could possibly be from user error or a dying xbox about to RROD.

Personally I would RGH if you arent using Live and dont plan to because it's cheaper.
If you want to use Live you can use Xk3y and it works fine no bans as of yet with my personal 0800 backups.

Sadly the problem does exist and it is not due to any specific xbox or its condition.

In fact, no one knows why or what is causing it, the only solution is to ship back and exchange the xkey.

Here is a 40 pages thread on xk3y forum: http://www.x360keyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=556

Yeah and if you actually read those 40 pages you will see it's the same people over and over with the same issues. I personally know 3 people that own the xk3y and all have different xbox 360 revisions and no resets. The problem is rare and remote. If it was a common problem there would be well over 40 pages and more complaints and even a fix by now. The issue could be a bad xbox, dvd drive, faulty xk3y, who knows its a isolated issue at best and doesnt effect the majority of xk3y owners.

I did actually read the thread and it is not just the same people; quite a number of different people with a variety of xbox configuration have been reporting this hard to pin down problem since Oct.

A more recent poster claims to have solve it after exchanging the xk3y, which indicates this issue may be caused by the xk3y hardware.

If anyone wants a xk3y and is not in a hurry then I'll suggest waiting until the situation is clearer, or a more stable xk3y is released.

dodgem4s there put up a quick summary:
QUOTE
Resets.
only in emulation mode
Not console specific (this includes phats and slims)
with xbox HDD attached or not
with or without module
tried different sdcards and still resets
idling in dashboard
Watching DVD's
Using any firmware or xbox dashboard version
resets randomly. Longest time xbox has not reset was over 4 hours
resets using powered/nonpowered drive (some have reported their problem went away with powered drive)
resets with dvd rom plugged in or not (some reported no dvd drive = no reset)
resets with both revisions of xkey

Other info.

ISO remains mounted once xbox restarts
Problem gets worse when kinect bar is connected (need more info about this)

Someone mentioned that their xbox resets only while using a v85 PSU and when switched to a v85c PSU, problem went away (was tested for over 12 hours) although others have tried different PSU and problem still persists.

Never resets in pass through mode which makes it even more of a mystery. From all the random fixes and non fixes, I am thinking that it could be a voltage or grounding issue.
